RED HOT TRACK OF THE WEEK: GOZER

Richard Holmes9th October 2023EXCLUSIVE FEATURES

Song

Celestial River

Artist

Gozer

Gozer backstory

Emerging from the ashes of Archelon in 2021, Sheffield’s Gozer released their debut, An Endless Static, last year.

And its visceral, cinematic sludge and cerebral post-rock immediately made an impact, giving fans of Bossk, Amenra and Cult Of Luna a new go-to for dense atmospherics and star crushing heaviness.

Indeed, Fading Light, one of the album’s many highlights, bagged our track of the week slot last April. “Not for the faint hearted”, we opined.

It hasn’t taken Gozer long to create a follow-up to their first opus.

Drummer/synth guy TJ Fairfax, guitarist/vocalist Craig Paul and bassist/vocalist Kex Sockett are soon to release The Path Always Leads To The End, an EP which promises to build on Endless Static’s mental health themes, and focus on passing on and “the unknown of what comes next”.

Celestial River is the first single to be taken from the EP.

In Gozer’s own words

“Celestial River was one of the first tracks we wrote after finishing our album An Endless Static.

“Originally it was going to be instrumental, but Kez came with these great lyrics that summed up how life pushes you forward.

“There’s always obstacles but if there’s a way to embrace them we can hopefully be happier when we look back on our journey.”

The verdict on Celestial River

Celestial River flows across a twilight landscape of monolithic chords and dense sonic textures. The song ripples with tension. There’s a feeling of yearning and at times, release. Like much of the material on Endless Static, it lingers long in the memory.

If Gozer wanted to build on their debut album’s momentum, they’ve certainly succeeded.

What’s next for Gozer?

The Path Always Leads To The End will be released on November 3.
