Frantic Amber backstory
The story of Frantic Amber begins in 2008 Stockholm when guitarist Mary Siebecke sought to create an all-female metal monster.
Clean vocals underpinned the band’s early work but the recruitment of growling Danish ballet dancer Elizabeth Andrews changed the aural dynamic.
Extreme vocals and the addition of do-it-all Japanese triple threat Mio Jäger catapulted Frantic Amber to the next level.
And 2010 debut EP Wrath Of Judgement landed the band a slot live on national TV at the prestigious P3 Guld awards.
During the next decade Frantic Amber shared stages with Behemoth, Exodus, Sabaton, Exciter, Hammerfall, Dark Tranquility, Myrkur and more.
And in the spring of 2019 single Scorched Earth teased critically acclaimed second album Bellatrix — a.k.a. ‘female warrior’.
Black Widow is the third single from the band’s upcoming third long player.
In Frantic Amber’s own words
“The given term ‘Black Widow’ is a category of female killers that kill for financial or material gain.
“Their victims are most commonly their husbands or lovers and likely with a life insurance or two involved.
“Oftentimes she goes free to kill again since she mainly uses poison which can have similar symptoms to natural causes of death, paired with the societal belief that women are soft and don’t kill…
“The black widow’s greatest weakness and most probable downfall is her greed.
“With a grand expenditure and lifestyle she must repeatedly turn to killing and eventually suspicion and autopsies arrive.
“The lyrics are a reflection of this kind of female serial killer and have drawn inspiration from the stories of various women around the world fitting this category.”
The verdict on Black Widow
Brutal. Bold. Bludgeoning.
That’s Black Widow in a cracked and gnarled nutshell as Frantic Amber up the ante ahead of album number three.
A ferociously shot video complements the darkly affecting lyrical content.
And Elizabeth Andrews’ bone crunching vocal batters the senses with trademark brute force.
Frantic Amber rely on razor sharp riffs and the punishing rhythm section of Madeleine Gullberg (bass) and Mac Dalmanner (drums) to press home their advantage.
And a heady concoction of wizened black, thrash and progressive metal makes for truly demonic sound.
Black Widow is white hot. Just don’t listen with the lights off…
