Rotten Sound backstory

Grindcore quartet Rotten Sound emerged from Vaasa in Finland in 1993.

And thanks to their scalding, HM-2 driven sonic barrages, it didn’t take long for them to get to the grind frontline.

But they have been relatively quiet since 2016’s Abuse To Suffer album, with vocalist Keijo Niinim stating: “I’m trying to find a positive way to say that maybe, just maybe, we were a bit lazy for a while.”

So it was with some relief that Rotten Sound launched back into the fray last month with Apocalypse.

Featuring new bass player, Matti Raappana, their eighth full-length – and first album in seven years – dropped on March 31 to great acclaim.

Digital Bliss is one of 18 tracks to feature on the record.

In Rotten Sound’s own words

“Have you ever got sucked in YouTube cat videos, Instagram stories or other dopamine creators? Does it feel like this?”

The verdict on Digital Bliss

Clocking in at just over a minute and warning of us of enslavement by social media, this is a typically abrasive grind attack from the Finns. And with a devastating mid-section riff from Mika Aalto and a searing vocal from Keijo Niinimaa, bliss it ain’t.

Haven’t heard Apocalypse yet? Digital Bliss is certainly a good place to start…

What’s next for Rotten Sound?

The band’s European tour starts on April 14 at Weinheim in Germany.

They’ll also be taking in Belgium, Austria, Italy, Czech Republic and The Netherlands on the trip, which culminates at SWR Barroselas Metalfest in Portugal on April 30.
