Thorbjørn Risager backstory
During the last 20 years, Thorbjørn Risager & The Black Tornado has blazed a trail across Scandinavia, Europe, Canada, the US and Asia.
A dynamic stage presence is fused with a sound that mixes soul, Chicago blues, boogie and rock ‘n’ roll.
TR&TBT have rocked Europe’s largest festival stages and brought their unique sound to blues and jazz clubs across the globe.
About to release their eighth studio album, the multi-award-winning band has opened for Bonnie Raitt and the Tedeschi Trucks Band.
And Risager has shared a stage with legends such as Buddy Guy, Doyle Bramhall II and Robben Ford.
In Thorbjørn Risager’s own words
“Fire Inside was written right after Dusty Hill died last year.
“I felt the urge to make a homage to ZZ Top, which is one of my all-time favorite bands.
“I can’t even remember how many times we’ve ended up in a very loud hotel room afterparty after a concert with ZZ Top’s Tres Hombres turned up to 11 and a bunch of cold beers!”
The verdict on Fire Inside
What starts out as a sedate Rolling Stones-style jam swiftly morphs into a dirty blues blast to make Dusty Hill proud.
TR&TBT add layer upon layer to a sumptuous slow builder until the lid blows off this brilliant track.
Gravel-toned vocals, sweeps of retro-styled six-string riffs, classic keys, horns and soulful backing vocals make for a melting pot of musical flavours.
Blistering solos ramp up the pace while Risager digs deep for inspiration welled from a mid-60s Stax vocal booth.
And it’s easy to imagine Dusty nodding along to a bona fide blues rock masterpiece.
Fire Inside is a scorcher of an underground summer hit: heatwave-ready but implausibly cool.
