He’s been surrounded by six dogs, 12 ducks and more face masks than he knows what to do with.

A dodgy internet connection hasn’t helped.

And he’s missing life on the road after being holed up in north Northumberland for much of the past eight months.

But Spike — lead singer of the Quireboys — has never been busier.

An Evening With Spike

Friday sees the genial Geordie host ‘An Evening In Lockdown With Spike From The Quireboys’.

It does what it says on the tin. Or does it?

“Of course I’m going to throw in some Quireboys classics,” he told Rushonrock.

“But there’ll be a few surprises in there too.

“I’ve been recording a new solo album featuring covers of all sorts of songs my mam likes me to play when I’m back home.

“And so you can expect some Ralph McTell in the set too!

“There’ll be stuff from my other solo work and a few surprises.

“So crack open a beer and join me this Friday for a laid back trip down memory lane!”

Dice Stream Does The Job

Filmed in 6K high definition and streamed via Dice, the unique set takes place on Fridaqy October 23 from 8pm.

Tickets are £12 and Spike’s kicked the dodgy internet into touch by pre-recording his Dice debut.

In addition to laying down covers for another solo record, the new projects are coming thick and fast.

There’s talk of a fresh collaboration with long-time buddy Dave ‘Bucket’ Colwell.

And it looks like the legendary Spike’s Free House set from Sweden Rock in 2015 is being primed for a physical release.

Spike’s Free House At Sweden Rock Set For Christmas Release?

That critically acclaimed one-off gig featured the very best of Frankie Miller and Free.

And Spike was joined by Simon Kirke and Thunder’s Luke Morley in front of a sun-soaked capacity crowd celebrating a slew of stone-cold rock and roll classics.

“I’ve been talking to Luke and we’re working on a release right now,” he added.

“Nick Mailing — who played bass with us that day following the sad passing of Andy Fraser — is mixing the record.

“We’re hoping to make it available before Christmas.

“Watch this space!”
