Treat – Ghost Of Graceland (Frontiers)

Genre: Hard Rock/AOR

Next year marks the 30th anniversary of the classic Dreamhunter album but Treat are in no mood to trade on their glorious past. The super Swedes rarely sounded better than they did on 2010’s RUSHONROCK Rated: 8/10 Coup De Grace but this classic set trumps even that assured ‘comeback’.

Ghost Of Graceland is a joy from start to finish. Whether pumping out the polished AOR at the heart of power ballad Together Alone or rocking out on the riotous Zeppelin-esque Better The Devil You Know (reminiscent of fellow countrymen Europe’s recent reboot and replete with a scintillating Hammond solo), Treat have served up a sumptuous dish of modern pop metal. And it’s best served loud.

Robert Ernlund delivers a vocal tour de force with the passion and conviction of a frontman half his age while fellow founder member Anders ‘Gary’ Wikstrom reinforces his reputation as one of Scando rock’s most versatile founding fathers.

The keyboards throughout are subtle yet sublime. Check out the beauty of Ernland’s pipes as he dovetails perfectly with the piano – and latterly the strings – on the uplifting Do Your Own Stunts.

There are treats. And then there is Treat.
