False Flags – Hexmachine (Self-released)
Genre: Alternative Metal/Hardcore
As a first taster of False Flags’ angular, noise rock meets math rock assault, Hexmachine is pretty mouthwatering… and you just know False Flags will tear it up live too.
Featuring former members of Leeds acts Red Stars Parade, Whores x 3 and Year of the Man, this band maintain Yorkshire’s fine recent record of producing exciting, innovative heavy-alt acts, and they deliver the goods in some style too. Fate (Has A Driver) is low-slung, rocking hardcore with fistfuls of attitude, while Pet Wolf lashes out with an intensity akin to The Dillinger Escape Plan… if this doesn’t get your adrenaline flowing, nothing will. Plus, there’s even hints of Unsane’s fraught, caustic attack thrown in to the mix here too – never a bad thing.
At six tracks, Hexmachine is over too quickly – let’s hope False Flags get the support to unleash something more substantial soon. For this is a proper brew, and then some.
