It’s that time of the year when we recognise the best of the best in rock and metal.
And as we count down towards our 2014 Albums Of The Year here’s a reminder of the vinyl and visual treats on offer over the last 12 months.
And if you vehemently disagree then feel free to get in touch and let us know what missed the cut…
2014 Vinyl Of The Year
1. Frank Zappa – Apostrophe (‘) (2014 Reissue)
As vinyl sales continued to surge the battle between heavyweight reissues and super deluxe new releases raged on. If this Zappa classic wasn’t wrapped up in anything new then the music sounded better than ever given this 180g analog transfer remix. Don’t Eat The Yellow Snow and Uncle Remus warmed the soul.
2. AC/DC – Rock Or Bust (7″ Single)
3. Reckless Love/The Treatment – Die Hard/The Outlaw (RSD 2014 Orange 12″ Split Single)
4. Rush – Rush (2014 Box Set Reissue)
5. Blues Pills – Live At Rockpalast (White 10″ EP)
2014 DVDs Of The Year
1. Guns N Roses – Appetite For Democracy
So it might not be the real GnR but, in truth, any version of the band is better than so many pale imitations pitching to be rock and roll’s next big thing. And Axl’s hired hands are bang on form during this extravagant romp through an often brilliant back catalogue. Remain unconvinced that GnR can still deliver? Watch this and think again.
2. Alice Cooper – Raise The Dead: Live From Wacken
3. Quireboys – Black Eyes Sons (Live DVD)
4. Whitesnake – Live In ’84: Back To The Bone
5. Rush – R40: 40th Anniversary Collectors’ Edition
