Newsted BandJason Newsted is ready to deliver some vintage Metallica alongside Dave Mustaine on next month’s Gigantour.

But the former Metallica bassist is in no mood to dwell on the past after making a new track available for download.

But metal fans everywhere will be buzzing at the prospect of Newstead and Mustaine hooking up on Megadeth’s latest Gigantour trek across the States in July.

“There is a chance that Mustaine and I will bust out some old Metallica that he was a part of,” revealed Newsted.

“It has been talked about. I’m willing to throw down Phantom Lord – actually, whatever he calls out, I’m gonna throw down!”

Newsted – the band put together by Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductee and six-time Grammy winner Jason – will release Heavy Metal Music (produced by Jason himself) on August 5in the UK  via Spinefarm Records.

Building on the teaser EP Metal (which debuted at Number One on the US iTunes Metal Chart), Newsted’s debut full-length assault has been touted as one of the albums of 2013.

Staind guitarist Mike Mushok joins an impressive line-up, with Newsted (bass, lead vocals & occasional guitar) flanked by guitarist Jessie Farnsworth and drummer Jesus Mendez Jr.

Newsted is currently in the throes of an extensive European summer festival tour which included a critically acclaimed Download set and a sold-out London show at the historic 100 Club.

A string of UK dates is being planned for later this year.

Newsted will return to the US next month for Megadeth’s formidable Gigantour, which also features Black Label Society, Device, Hellyeah and Death Division.
