mrbig1One hundred per cent hair metal heroes Mr Big are back! And the band who brought us the lighter-waving classic To Be With You are on the verge of releasing a brand new – albeit live – record after inking a deal with our favourite melodic rock label Frontiers Records.

The Back To Budokan CD/DVD package will be available from October 19 and word has it that Eric Martin, Paul Gilbert and the guys are on top form as they slay the baying Japanese hordes. Mr Big play their only UK date of 2009 in London later this month but if you can’t make that Shepherds Bush Empire shindig then read on.

Mr Big formed in 1988 with Billy Sheehan (bass) and Pat Torpey (drums) joining Mratin and Gilbert. The band became renowned for their shredding style, intense live performances, and well-crafted songs.

Identified early on as a ‘musicians’ band’, Mr Big kept the hits coming with Martin’s strong lead vocals, four part band vocal harmonies, and the band’s technical proficiency winning fans across rock’s various genres. Their hits include To Be With You (Billboard Hot 100 number one and chart topper in 15 countries in 1991), Wild World, Green-Tinted Sixties Mind and Just Take My Heart. Other Mr Big faves include Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy, Addicted To That Rush, Colorado Bulldog and Take Cover.

Mr Big’s following and reputation remained strong for more than two decades, despite the band being challenged by internal conflict and the changing trends in mainstream music.

In February 2009 the group cam back together after making the decision to reunite in late 2008. This announcement was marked with celebration and excitement amongst fans all over the world, especially in Japan.

Their first tour since reforming was in Japan – in June 2009 – with the band playing to sold-out audiences. The new double live CD/DVD, filmed and recorded during their standing room only concert at the Budokan in Tokyo, celebrates the welcomed return of one of rock’s giants.

The band also recorded two new songs, the original Next Time Around and the Argent cover Hold Your Head Up as a special bonus, along with an acoustic version of the timeless To Be With You.
