As things stand tonight AC/DC’s Geordie hero Brian Johnson will not be bringing his band to Tyneside next spring – a move bound to reopen the debate surrounding the singer’s seemingly frosty relationship with his hometown fans.
With just days to go before the release of Black Ice, Johnno and his pals have announced three UK dates for next April, in Manchester, London and Birmingham.
rushonrock understands there is provision for more British gigs subject to demand – and it’s not as if that’s going to be an issue – but AC/DC are more likely to double up at the arenas already announced rather than spread their wings. Glasgow may be the exception.
But if Newcastle does miss out on the greatest rock and roll show on earth then maybe we only have ourselves to blame. BJ was gutted when his band failed to sell out the Metro Radio Arena last time out and was rumoured to have told promoters he would never play with AC/DC on Tyneside again.
Fingers crossed he’ll have a change of heart and give his most loyal fans a final chance to prove themselves. Watch this space.
