It takes a lot to shock Geordie boy Spike but the super cool Quireboy – enjoying some well deserved time off after a summer on the festival circuit – is still talking about last month’s show with Ted Nugent.
Rushonrock caught up with the bandana-wearing crooner in Newcastle’s Strawberry boozer prior to the Toon’s pre-season clash with Valencia. And after all the usual footy chat Spike couldn’t help but hark back to last month’s Indigo2 date in London.
“We were excited to get the support slot but let’s just say I was a bit taken aback by some of Ted’s views,” he said. “The bloke is well known for being a little bit outspoken but he pushes it to the limit. I’ve seen and heard a few things over the years but some of his s**t even shocked me!”
Spike can expect more of the same when the Quireboys head to Spain next month for an Azkena Rock Festival featuring none other than the Sex Pistols. But needless to say a bloke who bleeds black and white is already looking forward to December 22 – and a homecoming show at Newcastle’s Carling Academy 2.
“We had real trouble getting that date as we were bumped off the original night by Duffy,” he added. “Can you believe she got first dibs on the Newcastle date? What’s the world coming to!”
Now it’s doubtful Duffy’s music comes close to The Quireboys’ brand spanking new disc Homewreckers And Heartbreakers and Spike added: “The record’s gone down really well everywhere we’ve played. I’m over the moon as they say.”
Catch up on more Quireboys news here soon and look out for a full interview with Spike (if he ever answers his damn mobile).
