WHILE SHE SLEEPS – YOU ARE WE ALBUM REVIEW

While She Sleeps – You Are We (Sleeps Brothers)

Genre: Metalcore

While She Sleeps have kept fans waiting for two years for You Are We, but it was worth every single second.

The band easily met their goal on PledgeMusic and gained backers such as Bring Me The Horizon, Deaf Havana, Architects and Josh Franceschi‏, lead singer of You Me At Six in the process.

Sometimes the hype can feel slightly manufactured, but in this instance it’s bang on and this album could be used as an example to show new bands how to make great music.

The UK metalcore scene is flush with success at the moment after Bury Tomorrow dropped Earthbound and launched a thousand mosh pits across the country on their tour in support of the record, but While She Sleeps are snapping at their heels and it’s a fantastic thing to witness.

From the first song on the record, the self-titled You Are We all the way to final, bruising, epic In Another Now there is a focus and drive that displays a band at the top of their game.

The April leg of the Sheffield rocker’s tour was a nigh on sell out and that shows the strength of support the band are experiencing now and none of it is exaggerated.

It comes as little surprise that BMTH are such vocal advocates of You Are We considering that Oli Sykes guests on Silence Speaks, but it’s also one of the best songs on the whole album. With an unrelenting pace but wonderful twisting, turning differences within the tune, this is a prime example that the genre doesn’t have to be eardrum bursting to have an impact.

Hurricane is the audio equivalent of the natural phenomenon, with a calm before the storm that is swept away effortlessly by the rest of the song.

After winning the Best British Newcomer gong at the 2012 Kerrang! awards and taking their time with You Are We, While She Sleeps have produced the best work of their career and there is no reason why they should stop there.
