Laurence Jones backstory
Signed to two major record labels aged just 18, one of the UK’s most exciting singer songwriters has agreeed four record contracts and five publishing deals during a stellar 15-year career.
Laurence Jones juggles his music with Chrones Disease and is an ambassador for Chrones and Colitis UK.
And he admits 2025 has been one of the toughest years yet battling a debilitating illness.
Hotly anticipated album On My Own is a raw and inspiring response to a challenging 12 months and will be released on Jones’ own Ron Records — the label dedicated to his late grandfather.
The prolific Nottinghamshire-based artist has topped the Official UK Jazz & Blues Chart and been voted among the Top 10 Blues Rock Guitarists in the World by MusicRadar.
Jones has supported legends including Sir Ringo Starr, Van Morrison, Jeff Beck, Johnny Winter and Status Quo.
To date he’s sold more than 50,000 albums worldwide and been inducted into the British Blues Awards Hall of Fame.
In Laurence Jones’ own words
“This is a song I wrote in a time of need.
“It almost came to me for healing. A lot of this album [On My Own] is about my battles and challenges living with this invisible and life-threatening disease [Crohn’s].
“It’s about wanting to give up but having that fight inside you that says, ‘come on, you can do it’.
“The verse and chorus are like those two voices in your head — the one that says ‘you can’t’ and the one that pushes you forward.”
The verdict on One Life
Stripped down but afforded the richly authentic sound of a classic guitar slide, One Life’s one hell of a tune.
Given its deeply affecting storyline — it’s Jones laying bare his ongoing struggle with serious illness — the lyrics hit hard.
But Jones wraps the intense subject matter within a surprisingly soft melody to create a truly moving juxtaposition.
It’s immediately clear that this isn’t the Notts native’s first rodeo: the British Blues Awards Hall of Famer brings all his experience and intuition to the table as One Life grows wings.
Complemented by a simple yet stunning black and white video — there’s nothing grim about the graveyard setting — this is a single that’s built to last.
Look forward to One Life becoming a staple of next year’s live set.
And expect the UK’s blues community to up their collective game: keeping up with the Jones is no easy task.
