Betty Lou backstory

Emerging from Blackpool’s riff-laden underground, the edgy and enchanting Betty Lou has been rewriting the rock and roll rulebook since the turn of the decade.

The self-styled disruptor burst onto the scene with 2024’s debut single You’re Mine.

But a lot can change in a year.

And punchy follow-up Outrageous represents the next chapter in a career that won’t be constrained by convention.

Betty Lou is a former BBC Introducing ‘One To Watch’ for a reason: you can’t afford to take your eyes off one of the most exciting talents we’ve witnessed all year.

Now based in the Big Smoke, Betty Lou’s making a big noise in London.

And Outrageous offers further evidence of a star on the rise.

The new single was co-written with Blackpool production duo Ryan Greaves and Liam Baugh — working under the alias Hot Saké.

In Betty Lou’s own words

“I’m proud of my Blackpool roots and I’m passionate about changing the narrative that still burdens my town.

“The people I know back home have a unique kind of fierceness about them — they’re incredibly hard workers and some of the most genuine people I’ve ever met.

“If Outrageous helps to shine a light on the creativity coming out of the place then that has to be a positive.

“This song is an amalgamation of all my favourite genres — alternative rock, trip hop and nu metal. Performing it live with the band is always so much fun!”

The verdict on Outrageous

Expecting You’re Mine MkII. Think again.

Betty Lou’s moved on… and so should you.

But don’t be disappointed. You won’t be disappointed. Outrageous is the sound of a singer songwriter raising the bar in riotous style.

It’s fierce, frenzied and fabulously catchy — kicking Betty Lou’s previous work into touch with a heady amalgam of molten nu-metal and trippy beats.

Think Crazytown but way cooler. Alien Ant Farm gone feral or Massive Attack reinvented as alt rock gods.

Betty Lou’s having a blast: Outrageous is shockingly good.
