Psycroptic backstory
A leading light in technical death metal, Psycroptic emerged from Hobart, Tasmania in 1999, built around the blueprint created by Dave and Joe Hayley.
Eight studio albums have followed, with Ob (Servant) and The Inherited Repression helping to propel the band to international stages… and showing that when it comes to tech death, Tassie knows where it’s at.
And the quintet announced some major news last week, when they revealed they’d signed to Metal Blade for their forthcoming new full-length, with guitarist Joe commenting: “Having grown up listening to countless amazing bands on the Metal Blade roster, the label had a big impact on shaping who we are as musicians, essentially becoming an integral part of our creative DNA.
“From the early days of picking up our instruments to finding our own sound as a band, Metal Blade has always represented the pinnacle of heavy music and a place where groundbreaking artists are created and thrive.”
Architects Of Extinction is a little taste of what they’ve been up to…
In bassist Todd Stern’s own words
“We are adding the final touches on our next record, but in the meantime, we have something savoury prepared: a dense, hard-hitting single entitled Architects Of Extinction. Get ready for the golden age of Tasmania’s most prolific metal band!”
The verdict on Architects Of Extinction
Where does Joe Hayley gets his riffs from? Fuck knows. But the Tasmanian pulls some deliciously phrased beauties out of the bag once again for this dark hymn: working in psychic sync with drummer Dave and bassist Todd Stern, the axeman chops his way through three and half minutes of pinpoint technical death metal. Not a second is wasted. It certainly bodes well for album number nine.
What’s next for Psycroptic?
The boys will be embarking on an extensive Australian tour on June 6, when they’ll be hitting Hobart’s Republic Bar. They’ll then be heading to Europe for an appearance at Slovenia’s Toliminator fest, before working their way across the continent for shows at Brutal Assault (August 7) and Alcatraz (August 9) among others.
UK fans can check out Psycroptic on August 2 at Manchester Academy.
