Royal Republic backstory
Pumping out ‘power disco’ since 2007, Royal Republic are the genre-defying rock and roll rebels who simply don’t know when to stop.
Dizzying debut We Are The Royal laid down a marker for the band’s mad as a box of frogs approach to making heavy music.
But it was follow-up Save The Nation — featuring the ‘does what it says on the tin’ Addictive — that fired the slick Swedes into Rushonrock folklore.
We covered the band’s 2012 show in Newcastle in support of that album and loved every minute.
Seven years down the line and frontman Adam Grahn told editor Simon Rushworth that latest album Club Majesty was the ‘most boundary-less’ record Royal Republic had ever made.
He was right.
But new long player LoveCop threatens to be the quartet’s most arresting work to date.
Three singles in and it already has the sound of a Record Of The Week contender.
Watch this space.
In Royal Republic’s own words
“Life is a highway but sometimes we all get stuck on the side of the road.
“This little kick up the tailgate is to remind you that even when your tire’s gone flat, there’s a lot of beauty in the world.
“Rockets, cream and strawberries, saxophones… all that good stuff!
“So don’t fall asleep at the wheel and don’t fall asleep at your best friend’s party.
“Because Wow! Wow! Wow!… who knows what you might miss!”
The verdict on Wow! Wow! Wow!
Wow! Wow! Wow! Just… Wow!
Track of the week? More like track of the year!
This is Royal Republic at their riotous, ridiculous, riveting best and it’s impossible to imagine any other rock and roll band having quite so much fun.
There’s sass, there’s sax and there’s satisfaction guaranteed as Adam Grahn and his buddies go all-out bonkers.
Paired with a peach of a video, this sizzling tune should soundtrack your summer.
And it’s a delightful antidote to global doom and gloom.
Wow! Wow! Wow! would have walked Eurovision and bagged Malmo a hometown win.
You read it here first but Royal Republic are finally ready to take Abba’s crown as Sweden’s craziest, catchiest musical export.
