As members of Newcastle’s Druganaut, they brought ‘high energy stoner rock’ – and barrel loads of riffs – to venues and festivals across the UK. And now vocalist Craig Relf and guitarist Kyle Partridge are back together again for High Force, an outfit that pays homage to 80s rock – and is inspired by Northern Britain’s majestic countryside.
The pair will release their debut four-tracker, Double Barreled Rockgun, on December 31, which will be available to buy or stream across digital platforms including iTunes, Amazon and Spotify.
Craig Relf said: “I’ve been mates with Kyle for a long time. When we were in Druganaut we would always travel together.
“On our journeys we would blast 80s rock and power ballads, singing and laughing all the way.
“In 2019 we started going on adventures into Northumberland, Cumbria and the Lakes.
“As soon as we got back in the car together the rock started up again.
“On one of our trips last winter we were listening to AC/DC and joking that we should start a rock band and almost immediately we had a concept and a bunch of ideas.
“I hadn’t laughed that hard for a long time.
“We had the idea, but what to call it? Then we arrived at our destination, High Force – a famous waterfall on the River Tees! It was perfect.
“We got to work early 2020 and recorded a couple of basic demos and to our surprise they were really good, and we definitely felt we had something.
“We managed to write four songs before the UK was put into lockdown and the downtime gave us a chance to finalise the tracks. As soon as we were out of lockdown we started recording.
“High Force is so much fun to be a part of and it never seems like work. It’s just two guys who love to party and rock ‘n’ roll!
“In the New Year we will start the writing process again and hope to have at least two more releases in 2021.”
Double Barreled Rockgun will be available via digital platforms on December 31.
Pre-orders are available from December 24 on Amazon and iTunes.
