FALLS – CREAM (Naughty Strawberry)

Genre: Alt. Rock

FALLS have been compared with bands such as Pulled Apart By Horses and while they might not match the vocal fury of the High Five, Swan Dive, Nose Dive pioneers they’re certainly a group the four piece could rub shoulders with.

Which is why the announcement that they will cease to exist as a band after their New Year’s Eve show in Bristol is such a sad moment. Rock music needs more in the abrasive yet insightful style that the band produce and their break up is an awful moment.

Cream is the second release of 2016 and follows in the footsteps of One Hundred Percent Strong. Like any good follow-up, it builds on the solid foundations laid down in that work while broadening their themes and showing a different side to the band.

EP opener Berries! gets the EP out of the blocks with a pace and ferocity that would leave Usain Bolt grasping at the thin air while Live Delicious is a poignant reminder that mental illness can strike anywhere. It must take courage to write songs that put yourself on the line but FALLS pull it off masterfully.

But with the knowledge that 2017 will not see any new material from the group leaves listening to CREAM a bittersweet experience. All that promise, all that raw energy and all that straight up rock ‘n roll won’t be translated into a full length LP. Such is life, but it doesn’t make it any less sad.
