Glowsun – Beyond The Wall Of Time (Napalm)

Genre: Psychedelic Rock/Stoner Rock

More psychedelic than 2012’s crustier, dustier, Eternal Season, this could be Glowsun’s finest hour. The French scuzz-lords may not have consciously refined their 70s-heavy sound but Beyond The Wall Of Time’s more bombastic and artistic moments breathe new life into a band that had veered dangerously towards the dull and disengaging.

Of its type the RUSHONROCK RATED: 6/10 Eternal Season delivered. A stoner rock record at heart, it didn’t pretend to be anything other than a hazy trip down retro lane. But it was almost ordinary.

BTWOT is different. It’s more immersive, more immediate and yet still a delightfully meandering journey through a landscape of distorted chord progressions and surprisingly tight rhythms.

Opener Arrow Of Time is allowed nine minutes to fully realise its obvious potential and never feels like its outstayed its welcome. Glowsun have finally got it. Simon Rushworth
