Whitesnake – The Deeper The Love (Coverdale/Vandenberg) b/w Judgement Day (Coverdale/Vandenberg) & Sweet Lady Luck (Coverdale/Vandenberg)

1990 Special Ltd Edition White Vinyl

Another Top 40 UK hit for DC and the gang and if you thought the six singles culled from 1987 were overly commercial by Whitesnake’s standards then this sugary sweet ballad took the band to a whole new level of pop rock sheen.

Featuring Steve Vai on guitar, The Deeper The Love was the third single taken from Slip Of The Tongue – the title track had failed to chart and the heat was on. Hitting 36 in the UK and charting one place higher in the US wasn’t much of an improvement for the original hair metal heroes but this tune is still a huge favourite with Whitesnake fans of a certain generation – Coverdale’s vocals have never sounded better. Whitesnake have parted company with drummer Chris Frazier as the band continues to work on the follow-up to the critically acclaimed Good To Be Bad.

Frontman David Coverdale has moved swiftly to fill his vacant stool by hiring Brian Tichy.

But the Cov is still searching for a new bass player after it was revealed long-time rhythm king Uriah Duffy has followed Frazier out of the door. Read the rest of this entry »

Review – Winger

@ Newcastle o2 Academy II, March 30 2010

If Steel Panther are the parody then Winger are the real thing. And in the same month hair metal’s spoof heroes treated Tyneside to a set so close to the bone it made grown men cry, this was a rare chance to get up close and personal with a true great of the genre.

There was a time when watching Kip Winger tear through the hits inside the cramped but atmospheric Academy II would have been unimaginable. Unfairly targeted by cult MTV cartoon Beavis and Butthead then, like so many of their pretty boy peers, crushed by the onslaught that was grunge, this was one band which never seemed capable of mounting a comeback. rushonrock Rider – Lexxi Foxxx

For those of you who feel starved of spoof hair metal following Steel Panther Week we’re giving you one final blast of our spandex-clad heroes in the shape of a behind-the-scenes look at the life of Lexxi Foxxx.

The most beautiful bass player on the planet might talk a good game when it comes to groupies, gang banging and the like but beneath it all there’s a genuinely sensitive soul. We think.

Check out the latest in our series of rushonrock Riders right here. Read the rest of this entry »

When it comes to spoof metal Spinal Tap have had it their own way far too long. But there are a bunch of new kids (OK, middle-aged men) on the block ready to take the Tap’s prized comedy rock crown.

Last summer Steel Panther were still an unknown quantity this side of the Pond but a bunch of crazy shows – including a super-charged Download set – changed all of that. Read the rest of this entry »

Aerosmith – Dude (Looks Like A Lady) (Tyler/Perry/Child) b/w Love In An Elevator (Live) (Tyler/Perry) & Walk This Way (Live) (Tyler/Perry)

1987

This was the track which confirmed Aerosmith as a credible hair metal act perfectly suited to capitalise on the MTV boom.

Steven Tyler and Joe Perry brought hitmaker supreme Desmond Child on board to beef up their late 80s songwriting and the transformation was awesome. Slick pop rock tunes combined with cutting edge video clips breathed new life into the Toxic Twins and sparked a golden era in Aerosmith’s chequered career. Read the rest of this entry »

Hair Metal Hero – Joey Tempest

Posted by simon On January - 22 - 2010 2 COMMENTS

Perhaps the ultimate Hair Metal Hero, expert crooner Joey Tempest combined pretty boy looks with a pretty special set of pipes to take the late 80s rock scene by storm.

As frontman with Europe he toured the world belting out The Final Countdown and countless other pop rock classics – setting the standards for a new breed of metal band.

Latest record Last look At Eden is every bit s good as anything Joey has done before and we can’t wait to catch Europe on tour in the UK in the next few weeks. For now let’s look at the music behind the man.
