A Day to Remember at Newcastle University was a good venue choice after the show sold out quicker than expected at the O2 Academy and had to be upgraded to a larger room.

The band’s headlining tour is mostly sold out and tonight fans seemed to turn out for the two support acts just as much as for the headliners.

Your Demise took to the stage first and although the whole room wasn’t buzzing, a handful of people set about ‘moshing’ before the band had even played a note. Read the rest of this entry »

Pop rock buzz band Elliot Minor took to the stage in Newcastle to perform the last of their English tour dates in front of a surprisingly small audience at Northumbria University’s modest student union venue.

With their self titled debut album reaching the dizzying heights of six in the UK charts in 2008, one might have expected larger numbers. However it seems the change in venue from the city’s Academy was made to suit a more intimate crowd. Read the rest of this entry »

Perhaps he should be receiving the degree of Doctor of Notes (both for those he has hit and those he has earned), rather than that of Doctor of Letters, but next Friday will see one of the greatest names in rock honoured by his hometown university.

And not before time.

Play any Fightstar song to your average rock fan and challenge them to guess its origins. There could only be a minute chance that they would guess the screaming lead vocals are sung by a member of boy band Busted – namely Charlie Simpson.

It is a surreal sight to see the same man who used to sing about air-hostesses, visiting the future and school boy crushes now falling into the ‘emo-screamo’ category. But for the most part it works. Read the rest of this entry »

Some of you may only be familiar with the name Frank Turner from the post-hardcore band Million Dead who sadly went their separate ways after four years and two albums in 2005.

The band members pursued their own projects, resulting in the revelation that is Frank Turner as a solo artist and delivering the talented folk/punk singer-songwriter who now has three studio albums and a sold out autumn 2009 UK tour. Read the rest of this entry »
