He landed an 8/10 rushonrock album review last August and now Hot Water Music’s Chuck Ragan is heading back out on the road in support of the excellent Gold Country.

The punk rock troubadour kicks off his latest UK jaunt in Newcastle at the city’s Northumbria University on March 15 before racking up a further eight dates nationwide.

And it just so happens Ragan reckons his new material is some of the best he’s ever written. “The record is just another page in the book and another chapter in life,” he said. Read the rest of this entry »

Those naughty, noisy girls Kittie return to these shores at the weekend and this time they’ve got a similarly loud bunch in tow.

It Dies Today caused quite a stir with their 2009 release for Trustkill Records – Lividity. And now they’re hoping to make a bit of a din by delivering live the choice cuts from that brutal record.

The band members might only be in their early 20s but with three thumping albums under their belts and slots touring on Ozzfest and with the likes of Machine Head and Bleeding Through it’s pretty damn clear they mean business. Read the rest of this entry »

Kiss3Kiss are rumoured to be on the verge of adding Newcastle to the UK leg of next summer’s Sonic Boom tour.

A concerted rushonrock campaign to bring Gene, Paul and the gang back to the North East followed the news that the Toon had missed out on the rock and roll veterans’ summer 2010 jaunt.

And sources close to the Kiss camp suggest the global stars have caved into the pressure with the band’s management working on an early May date. Watch this space and keep your fingers crossed for what would be a Crazy, Crazy Night!

coopertik@ Newcastle City Hall, November 27 2009

As a youth Alice Cooper was considered talented enough to win a college scholarship on the back of his long distance running. That natural level of endurance has served him well.

Who could have imagined Alice, at the height of his late 70s excess, would still be walking, let alone running, well into his seventh decade on this brutal planet? And yet, like a rampaging can of human Red Bull, he possesses energy enough to fuel one of rock’s theatrical triumphs night after night after night. Read the rest of this entry »

vaintik@ Newcastle Trillians, November 25 2009

This gig would have been inconceivable a decade ago but thanks to the long overdue revival of all things glammed up and hairy, the one and only Davy Vain rolled back the years in front of a boistrous and adoring crowd.

Those who claim one of prettiest boys of the late 80s scene has become a bloated parody of his former self should revise that opinion. And fast. Looking fitter than a bunch of blokes half his age and with the old pipes still in ear piercing form, Vain is a frontman quite capable of delivering unfinished business in some style.
