Review – Kiss

@ Newcastle Metro Radio Arena, May 2 2010

When God gave rock and roll to us one of the bands he surely earmarked for blind worship was Kiss.

This moving Sunday service in Newcastle might not have seen the largest congregation ever to grace the city’s cavernous arena but the faith, if not the ticket sales, was strong.

And thanks to a sensational sermon lasting more than two hours those who did choose to pay homage at the church of Kiss were treated to pure rock heaven.

But the sad thing is that it’s doubtful we’ll see the like again – at least on Tyneside. A business like Kiss simply can’t afford to play to half empty venues and the frowns across the faces of the stream of staff emerging from stage right before and during the show said it all. Merry Kissmas Newcastle

Kiss3Kiss are rumoured to be on the verge of adding Newcastle to the UK leg of next summer’s Sonic Boom tour.

A concerted rushonrock campaign to bring Gene, Paul and the gang back to the North East followed the news that the Toon had missed out on the rock and roll veterans’ summer 2010 jaunt.

And sources close to the Kiss camp suggest the global stars have caved into the pressure with the band’s management working on an early May date. Watch this space and keep your fingers crossed for what would be a Crazy, Crazy Night!

Boom Time For Kiss Fans!

Kiss3Riding high on the back of their brilliant new album Sonic Boom, veteran rockers Kiss will bring their latest tour to UK arenas next summer.

Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons and co. have won widespread acclaim for their best record in two decades and the clamour to see the original rock gods perform live has never been greater.

In response to that demand the band is playing four UK arena dates in May before embarking on a huge European tour throughout the summer – with rumours rife of a headline slot at Download 2010 on Friday June 11. Read the rest of this entry »

KISS WEEK: Sonic Boom Reviewed

Posted by simon On October - 6 - 2009 1 COMMENT

kiss sonicKiss – Sonic Boom (Loud & Proud/Roadrunner Records)

Expecting very little from the first Kiss record in 11 years was rushonrock‘s failsafe way of softening the blow and lessening the pain.

Surely a more optimistic outlook was only going to bring heartache and pain from a band which stopped making good records more than 20 years ago – even longer if you never really appreciated the band’s hair metal era. In fact this unbelievable return to form is one of the most unlikely rock and roll success stories ever. Read the rest of this entry »
