With a rushonrock rating of 7/10 we’ve already recommended fans of quirky rock check out the various collaborations on the Extremely Sorry soundtrack – released earlier this week.
Featuring the might of Motorhead, Slayer and Black Mountain to name but a few it’s better than your average hotch potch of movie tunes.
And now we’ve bagged a clip of Motorhead’s Lemmy chatting to Flip rider Geoff Rowley – the former no doubt imparting his vast knowledge of skater life to the latter… Read the rest of this entry »

We could have jumped the gun and reviewed the standard version of the new album by thrash legends Slayer but certain bands demand to be heard on heavyweight vinyl.
So we waited. And waited. And waited. Until our 180 gram beast of a record finally arrived with 11 thumping new anthems from Tom, Dave and the boys.
And was the wait worthwhile? Read on for the official rushonrock verdict on World Painted Blood. Read the rest of this entry »

This week we celebrate Brit Rock – that sleazy, bluesy, hair metal-inspired movement which peaked around the late 80s and early 90s when a slew of great British bands back big record deals and crashed the charts with refreshing regularity.
There’s an exclusive chat with Quireboy Paul Guerin (pictured) plus a full review of the reissued A Bit Of What You Fancy and the chance for five lucky rushonrock readers to win a copy – featuring sleeve notes by our very own editor Simon Rushworth!
Then there’s another interview exclusive as former Little Angel Toby Jepson drops in for a chat. Ready to kick off a full UK tour in his role as frontman with the reformed Gun he’s in typically ebullient mood. Terrorvision hit The Vinyl Countdown and there’ll be an honourbale mention for Thunder somewhere along the line. But that’s not all folks… Read the rest of this entry »

It’s another crazy week for new rock with mega-selling US arena fillers Creed (pictured) leading the charge. There’s southern grungesters Kingskin kicking up a storm on their Steve Albini-produced second album and some classic live Cinderella for those who love their hair metal with extensions.
Melodic rock enjoys a vintage week with Mastedon and Blanc Faces both delivering some brilliantly retro 80s fare. And this week they’re up against wannabe Brit rockers Dead Confederate and those pretty boys from Elliott Minor. And don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about Slayer or the Quireboys – the former’s latest arrived in vinyl format this weekend and we’re celebrating the re-release of the latter’s A Bit Of What You Fancy with an exclusive interview and giveaway later this week. Enjoy! Read the rest of this entry »

Motorhead mainman Lemmy and Slayer’s Dave Lombardo are just two of rock’s royalty to have added their significant clout to the soundtrack of new skater movie Extremely Sorry.
Acclaimed producer Baron has brought together some of the biggest names in music to create a compilation of top tunes relating to each of the skaters featured in the latest film from the Flip franchise.
But it is the decision to get down and dirty with Lemmy and Lombardo which will excite metal heads at a time when both men are riding the crest of a creative wave. Read the rest of this entry »

Wednesday sees Biffy Clyro (pictured) and The Manchester Orchestra take to the stage in the Toon and the action keeps on coming as reformed NWOBHM legends Marseille check into Trillians on Friday. But if that’s not enough then folk rock troupe Mostly Autumn tackle the Academy crowd on Saturday with Soil at the same venue 24 hours later.
Of course it’s not all about the vibrant live scene and we love to bring you the exclusive interviews right here on rushonrock. And this week’s no different as hair metal hero Kip Winger checks in to chat about his new record ahead of February’s UK tour. But there’s more! Read the rest of this entry »

Tomorrow sees the return of the ultimate hair metal babe as Lita Ford (left) unleashes her hotly anticipated comeback record Wicked Wonderland. We review and rate it right here.
So who’s the former Runaway up against this week?
Big hitters Bon Jovi and Slayer bring their latest tunes to the table so look out for a Rock Solid special later this week.
In the meantime we check out the old school metal of Saviours and some stripped down Sharon den Adel (if only) as Within Temptation go all acoustic.
Then there’s the full-on assault that is Fu Manchu as the stoner legends return with one of their most accomplished and accesible albums to date.
But does any of it come close to lovely Lita? Find out right here… Read the rest of this entry »
Testament – Trial By Fire (Skolnick/Peterson/Billy) b/w Nobody’s Fault (Tyler/Whitford) 1988
Taken from the album The New Order, which hit 136 on the Billboard Hot 200 and ultimately broke the band as a commercial prospect, this Testament classic still sounds massive today.
Had there been a big five when it came to thrash metal monsters breaking out of the US in the late 80s then Chuck Billy and his bombastic crew would have made the cut.
As it was the Big Four – Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax – enjoyed even greater success and remained in a superstar club all of their own. But tracks like Trial By Fire prove Testament’s class and those of us who have witnessed the band live in 2009 will testify to the fact that they’re still going strong. Read the rest of this entry »
Anthrax – I’m The Man (Anthrax/Rooney) b/w Caught In A Mosh (live) (Anthrax) 1987
Succeeding in making the Beastie Boys look like little girls lost, New York City thrash legends Anthrax fused metal with rap at a time when their credentials as rock gods were far from assured.
This phase in the band’s ultimately illustrious career was as brilliant as it was bold and the two tracks featured on this fine seven incher are representative of an act never afraid to push the boundaries – even when the stakes were ridiculously high. Read the rest of this entry »
