Review – Serpico

serpico-photo2@ The Trojan Rooms, Whitley Bay, June 8 2009

Border raiders with big riffs and even bigger choruses, Serpico are set to be huge. It’s just such a shame so few of the North East’s rock brigade were present to witness Mikey and his mob lay waste to Whitley Bay’s Trojan Rooms. Fair play to the Scots rockers – they ignored the fact that no more than 20 people were present and the fact that the sound was patchy to say the least and went on to deliver a set worthy of Download. Oh, did we mention they’re playing the world’s most diverse rock and metal festival on Saturday… Read the rest of this entry »

DEF LEPPARD Week Starts Here!

Posted by simon On June - 8 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

deflep2Here at rushonrock we’ve never been afraid to nail our colours to the mast when it comes to bigging up the music we love most. And Def Leppard are and always have been one of the best bands on the planet in our very humble opinion.

To celebrate their return to Donington and their prestigious closing set at Download 2009 we’ve lined up a week of Leppard mania including exclusive interviews, archive reviews and a full festival preview.

Kicking off with a look at the re-released and repackaged versions of Pyromania and Adrenalize we’ll also be talking to axe hero Phil Collen ahead of a busy week for the former Girl man. There’s a special edition of The Vinyl Word featuring our favourite slabs of Lepp plastic and we roll back the years to Sheffield Don Valley Stadium 1993 - a phenomenal event which relaunched the Steel City stars almost 16 years ago to the day.

But if the NWOBHM pioneers aren’t your cup of tea then don’t fear. There’s more, much more… Read the rest of this entry »

Rock Solid

serpico-photo2Scottish newbies Serpico lead a quartet of emerging bands hoping to cash in on Bank Holiday releases this week and with their Whitley Bay headline show approaching fast it might well be worth investing in what is a cracking slab of heavy rock.

If classic rock’s more your bag then you can’t go wrong with the Kevin Shirley-produced Eden, released by identical twins Frank and Jim Paoli and their pals in Draven. Then there’s the Brummie orchestral metal of Hanging Doll and a fabulous mixed bag by the angry young things of Livid. Love new music? Love rushonrock. Read the rest of this entry »

EXCLUSIVE – Serpico Interview

serpico-photo2Rising Scots rockers Serpico could be the next big thing and this summer you’ll get the chance to deliver your verdict as the boys unleash their debut album and pack their tour bus ready for a full headline tour.

Neon Wasteland hits stores next month and the boys will be heading out across the nation – stopping off in Whitley Bay along the way – in support of a record already exciting the likes of Kerrang! and Rock Sound.

We caught up with frontman and former Oxford student Mikey to chew the Serpico fat so sit back and enjoy yet another rushonrock exclusive. Read the rest of this entry »

Metal Mikey

Posted by simon On May - 1 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

serpico-photo2Serpico frontman Mikey (Serpico ! ) has promised North East fans a full on rock assault when the band makes its Whitley Bay debut later this summer.

And we can expect nothing less than a fully professional blowout from the Scots noiseniks with the hard-gigging fivepiece well aware of the pitfalls facing young bands out on the road. “We’ve supported the likes of Aiden, Kill Hannah, Stone Gods, Wednesday 13 and Black Stone Cherry over the last couple of years,” Mikey told rushonrock.

“And we’ve learned just as many good lessons as bad. I know the Black Stone Cherry boys get some stick for not drinking but that’s cool with me. I hardly have a beer before a show or when we’re out on tour because the next thing you know your throat’s gone and you’re standing in front of a load of fans barely able to sing a note. It happened to me in Amsterdam – but the crowd actually liked it…” Read the rest of this entry »

serpico-photo2Welcome to five hard as nails men from north of the border just waiting to launch an all-out assault on the North East.

This is Serpico and the heavy metal heroes have won instant fans within rushonrock as their three-track album sampler continues to demand constant rotation. Even better, it appears the Edinburgh quintet have pencilled in a date at the region’s fastest-rising rock venue – Whitley Bay’s Trojan Rooms – in June!

Single We Own The Night will be available as a digital download at the end of the month and debut album Neon Wasteland follows next month. Read the rest of this entry »
