White Trash – Apple Pie b/w The Crawl, Lil’ Nancy & Good God

1991 Four Track Promo Album Sampler

White Trash were the best band that never was. End of.

Fusing rock and metal with a whole lot of horns their infectious sound won a degree of critical acclaim before internal differences and the changing musical landscape led to their premature demise.

But the great news is that White Trash are back and those yearning for a return to the good old days of their self-titled debut should check out 2009’s 3-D Monkeys In Space. Even better, the band is out on the road again.   Read the rest of this entry »

Valentine’s Day may be all about red roses, big hearts and sloppy kisses but not if you’re a member of HIM or Dommin. We look at two of rock’s chief anti-love protagonists and a whole load of other stuff this week.

There’s the long awaited Best Of from our favourite Scando sleaze kings Backyard Babies (pictured) and the debut solo album from Cradle Of Filth crooner Sarah Jezebel Deva.

Throw in some seriously heavy shit from Rising Records’ label mates Sworn Amongst and With Chaos In Her Wake and there’s plenty to keep the metal heads out there happy. Plus we check out a snappy debut from buzz band Straight Lines – fresh from a triumphant 2009 touring with Kids In Glass Houses, The Automatic and Motorhead. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s rock Jim but not as we know it. This week saw the release controversial rapper Lil Wayne’s new album, Rebirth. So what’s a hip hop artist’s new release got to do with anything in this fine rock Mecca?

Rebirth sees Mr Wayne Jnr. take his auto-tuned voice in a completely new direction, with a rap/rock effort. I won’t pretend the release will be adored by rock lovers, quite the opposite in fact. Read the rest of this entry »

Ltd Edition Gatefold with Six Postcards 1991

For as long as Toby Jepson continues to blaze a trail with the newly reformed Gun, many fans will yearn for his own band to get back together and roll back the glory years.

The hit-laden crew from Scarborough were at the forefront of the Brit Rock movement in the late 80s/early 90s and had an uncanny knack for putting out the best pop rock songs of the era. Read the rest of this entry »

Chuck Out

He landed an 8/10 rushonrock album review last August and now Hot Water Music’s Chuck Ragan is heading back out on the road in support of the excellent Gold Country.

The punk rock troubadour kicks off his latest UK jaunt in Newcastle at the city’s Northumbria University on March 15 before racking up a further eight dates nationwide.

And it just so happens Ragan reckons his new material is some of the best he’s ever written. “The record is just another page in the book and another chapter in life,” he said. Read the rest of this entry »

LA goth rock crew Dommin are being widely tipped as the next big thing to come out of the Roadrunner stable and they hit the UK this week in support of the excellent Lacuna Coil.

With debut album Love Is Gone out the day after Valentine’s Day all those anti-romantics will be licking their cold lips with glee.

And if you don’t get the chance to deliver your verdict on Dommin don’t despair (or do, if that’s what floats your boat) – the US rockers will be supporting the ultimate goth rock heroes H.I.M. in March. And we’re hoping to bring you an exclusive interview with the band right here very soon. Read the rest of this entry »

@ LYH Newcastle, January 9 2009

Although not a new concept, I am no less intrigued by a new rock night in Newcastle. With usual haunts doing the same old song and dance what is there to lose by checking out Rock@lyh’s free entry night?

Granted anyone can roll up and play a selection of rock but what many fail to do is to play what the crowd want and keep the pace interesting. This might just be the exception to the rule. Read the rest of this entry »

Live music returns this week in the shape of new-look Aussie rockers Wolfmother and metal maidens Kittie. Needless to say we’ll be keeping tabs on both.

There’s an exclusive interview with Danger Danger’s Ted Poley as we build up to a very special week for lovers of all things hair metal.

And we feature Finntroll’s (pictured) Vreth in the ever-popular rushonrock Rider. There’s an all-time classic from Alice Cooper as we feature more big-size vinyl on the 12@12. And there’s more! Read the rest of this entry »

Elliot_Minor_small_2@ Northumbria University, November 21 2009

Pop rock buzz band Elliot Minor took to the stage in Newcastle to perform the last of their English tour dates in front of a surprisingly small audience at Northumbria University’s modest student union venue.

With their self titled debut album reaching the dizzying heights of six in the UK charts in 2008, one might have expected larger numbers. However it seems the change in venue from the city’s Academy was made to suit a more intimate crowd. Read the rest of this entry »
