It may be premature to suggest as much but are we on the cusp of a brave new era for rock-orientated singer-songwriters capable of so much more than strumming a guitar and growling heavily into a low slung mic?
Rock and metal, by its very nature, is hardly geared towards solo artists packing nothing more than a semi-acoustic and a tiny amp. There are those who insist rock isn’t rock without a beefed up backline and heavy as shit rhythm section. Every so often an incredibly charismatic frontman comes and goes in the fickle world of rock without ever really making the mark his talent deserves.
Jizzy Pearl, akin to Perry Farrell in terms of his on-stage energy and quirky delivery, was always that man. But 20 years on from writing the first chapter of the Love/Hate story, the vibrant vocalist could yet fulfil his immense potential and complete a classic fairytale comeback. Singer songwriter supreme Ricky Warwick has revealed he’s heading to Tyneside this summer on the back of his brilliant new solo record Belfast Confetti.
The new acoustic led album is out on Global Music’s DR2 label later this month and the former Almighty frontman is in awesome form as he recounts memories of his Ulster upbringing. Having already inked in a slew of dates for Ireland and Scotland, Warwick will announce a 10-date tour of England’s finest rock hotbeds later this week. Read the rest of this entry »

Not content with releasing a new acoustic solo album and the official Northern Ireland footy song, workaholic rocker Ricky Warwick will play a one-off charity show with his band The Almighty this summer.
The Scots rockers will pay tribute to former manager Tommy Tee, who died suddenly at the age of 46 last year. They will be joined at the Cheese & Grain in Frome on June 20 by New Model Army – another band managed by Tommy Tee. Both bands are playing for free to ensure that all the proceeds from the one off Tommystock gig go to their friend and colleague’s family. Read the rest of this entry »
