After a slow start to 2010 we review no fewer than nine new releases this week and there’s something for everyone to bring January to a suitably raucous close.
Whether you want to check out vintage Saxon (pictured) in the shape of expanded editions of three of the band’s often overlooked 80s standards or US Saxon-alikes Keel we slate and rate ‘em right here.
There’s the brilliant Bruce Kulick and his start-studded BK3 album plus a thrilling hair metal throwback as Wig Wam return to take on allcomers.
Frontiers standard-bearers Murder Of My Sweet bid for your listening pelasure and Kerrang! tour headliners All Time Low show their softer side with an acoustic mini album. Enjoy. Read the rest of this entry »

Iron maidens Hysterica (seen here demanding a picture with our publicity-shy editor) held the Hard Rock Hell crowd in the palm of their hands in Prestatyn last month for 30 brief but brilliant minutes.
And with debut album Metalwar making waves across the UK and Europe we’re predicting a big year ahead for the foxy five-piece.
Hysterica hope to return to British shores in 2010 for a full tour of the country which spawned Judas Priest – the band which inspired Bitchie and her band to make metal music in the first place. We talked exclusively to the ultimate rock chicks. Read the rest of this entry »

They’re one of our favourite new bands and they’re keeping trad metal alive – Manchester’s Fury UK are fast becoming the band to watch in 2010!
After wrapping up their latest high profile run of dates, as support to MSG, the band are already confirmed for 2010’s Hammerfest and have grand plans for the next 12 months.
We caught up for a brief chat with frontman Chris Appleton before the boys take a well-earned festive break. Read the rest of this entry »
Joan Jett & The Blackhearts – I Love Rock N Roll (Hooker/Merrill) b/w Love Is Pain (Jett) 1982
Originally released in 1982, the re-release of Jett’s number one US single followed a decade later and opened up the former Runaway to a whole new audience of hair metal devotees.
Tracks like 1988’s I Hate Myself For Lovin You and 1990’s Dirty Deeds had ensured the original rock chick was already a favourite on MTV.
But the clamour for more of her best known tune was too much and in 1992 she remixed I Love Rock N Roll on a self-released four-track Japanese EP of the same name – sparking a resurgence in all things Jett. Read the rest of this entry »

Biff Byford is one of the NWOBHM’s great survivors and the charismatic Saxon frontman is sounding better than ever after completing two UK headline tours in one year!
A regular favourite on the rushonrock pages, the boy from Barnsley checked in to offer his thoughts on the seminal metal movement which burst out of the British Isles in the late 70s.
And he also welcomed back old buddies Anvil after touring alongside the Canadian comeback kids this month. Read the rest of this entry »

Wednesday sees Biffy Clyro (pictured) and The Manchester Orchestra take to the stage in the Toon and the action keeps on coming as reformed NWOBHM legends Marseille check into Trillians on Friday. But if that’s not enough then folk rock troupe Mostly Autumn tackle the Academy crowd on Saturday with Soil at the same venue 24 hours later.
Of course it’s not all about the vibrant live scene and we love to bring you the exclusive interviews right here on rushonrock. And this week’s no different as hair metal hero Kip Winger checks in to chat about his new record ahead of February’s UK tour. But there’s more! Read the rest of this entry »

He’s a Barnsley boy boasting the true Yorkshire grit which took his band Saxon to the very summit of the NWOBHM movement.
And 30 years after the UK spawned metal for the masses, Biff Byford is still fronting one of the nation’s best-loved acts as Saxon go from strength to strength.
Out on tour with fellow metal monsters Anvil, it’s time we took a look behind the scenes with one of rock’s finest frontmen. Read the rest of this entry »

Saxon singer Biff Byford is being courted by not one, but two film companies with offers of key roles in productions due to start rolling next year.
The NWOBHM legend tours in support of latest record Into The Labyrinth next month as the band’s remarkable popularity surge continues to gather pace.
But it seems there’s no rest for the musically wicked with Biff set to appear in US and German movies – and provide music for the respective films’ soundtracks. Read the rest of this entry »

Another storming week for new releases and we’ve got them all right here on rushonrock. Whether you’re ready for some old school W.A.S.P. (pictured) with a modern twist, some live Steve Vai with widdly diddly bits aplenty or some frankly bonkers fare from Bowling For Soup we rate them all.
Throw in some stripped down Marillion for good measure, a slice of Linkin Park in the shape of Chester Bennington’s new band Dead By Sunrise, some post-grunge Antwerp style from The Hickey Underworld and Chilli Pepper Chad Smith’s new side project the Bombastic Meatbeats and you’ve got a recipe for rock heaven. Honest. Read the rest of this entry »
