BRIT ROCK WEEK – GUN EXCLUSIVE

Posted by simon On November - 10 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Gun RESIZEThey burst onto the scene with the barnstorming rocker Better Days and won worldwide accalim for their cracking cover of Cameo’s Word Up – they are, of course, the mighty Gun.

But these days the Glaswegians have morphed into some kind of Brit Rock supergroup after adding Little Angels’ frontman Toby Jepson to their ranks.

Ahead of their Newcastle o2 Academy show this Thursday, rushonrock caught up with the charismatic singer… Read the rest of this entry »

biffyclyronew2Wednesday sees Biffy Clyro (pictured) and The Manchester Orchestra take to the stage in the Toon and the action keeps on coming as reformed NWOBHM legends Marseille check into Trillians on Friday. But if that’s not enough then folk rock troupe Mostly Autumn tackle the Academy crowd on Saturday with Soil at the same venue 24 hours later.

Of course it’s not all about the vibrant live scene and we love to bring you the exclusive interviews right here on rushonrock. And this week’s no different as hair metal hero Kip Winger checks in to chat about his new record ahead of February’s UK tour. But there’s more! Read the rest of this entry »

Review – Enter Shikari & The Devil Wears Prada

entershikari2@ Newcastle o2 Academy, October 20 2009

English post-hardcore band Enter Shikari took to the stage in front of a room packed full of fans ranging from primary school age to their late 50s. There’s no doubting the wide ranging appeal of one of the UK’s greatest rock hopes.

2009 album Common Dreads may not have matched the commercial success of their crtically accalimed debut, rising to a mediocre 16 in the UK albums chart, but interest in ES has never waned. Right now the boys are touring the UK, Ireland, Europe and Australia with the sold-out signs a common feature across the globe. Review – Black Stone Cherry, Loaded & The Parlor Mob

According to Black Stone Cherry frontman Chris Robertson the Kentucky, Edmonton crew didn’t get into rock n roll to drink beer and ‘meet’ women.

That might seem a little crazy to all you spotty kids out there convinced a band is the only way to guarantee four packs and foreplay but it means the best emerging rock band on the planet is fully focused on the music. And when the music’s this good you just don’t want pints and groupies to spoil the party. Read the rest of this entry »

Review – Bowling For Soup & Zebrahead

Bowling For Soup@ Newcastle o2 Academy, October 18 2009

Bowling for Soup served up a rock treat with the help of a handful of friends and a sprinkle of Texan comedy.

As has always been the case with the humorous rockers, a guaranteed smile may as well be included in the admission price as the crowd never seems to stop grinning at their gigs.

The Leftovers kicked off the night followed by the brilliant MC Lars - a Beastie Boys style rapper with more than a twist of rock thrown in for good measure. But the best was yet to come with Zebrahead easily stealing the night’s undercard. Read the rest of this entry »

Review – Papa Roach and Madina Lake

It’s always a blow when you miss Heaven’s Basement but it wasn’t our fault, honest. Fortunately the first band on tonight are back in the Toon in December and we will be too.

So that left Madina Lake to pick up the pieces and just how these emo-tinged pretty boys from Chicago would raise the rushonrock spirits was anyone’s guess. A rather generous six out of 10 review for their latest record Attics To Eden didn’t bode well but it seems the Leone brothers and their buddies are a different animal live. Bowling Spin

Bowling For SoupWith new record Sorry For Partyin’ unleashed on an unsuspecting British public today and a UK headline tour in full swing it’s going to be pretty hard to ignore pop punksters Bowling For Soup this month. And why would you?

Whatever you think of their childish rock and cheesy lyrics these bad boys from Texas are always game for a laugh and Sunday night’s Newcastle o2 Academy show should be something special – even if it’s special in a toe curling kinda way.

And to warm you up for what’s sure to be one of the silliest gigs of the year we’ve dug out the latest BFS tour blogs. If this webisode double doesn’t get you in the mood then nothing will…   Read the rest of this entry »

Posted by simon On October - 12 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

frank-turner-littleThe rock just keeps on coming and this week we’re delighted to bring you another rushonrock exclusive in the shape of a brand new interview with former Gunner, erstwhile Velvet Revolver and current frontman with punk rock troupe Loaded.

Yes, Duff McKagan’s checking in again ahead of his support slot with hot US band Black Stone Cherry – a bill also featuring one of the bass player’s favourite new bands in the shape of Parlor Mob. We can’t wait. But before then we have Papa Roach, Madina Lake and Heaven’s Basement playing Newcastle’s o2 Academy on Tuesday – plus Wolf at Trillians – and a gig-tastic weekend coming up.

Punk rock troubadour Frank Turner hooks up with Fake Problems to play Newcastle Uni on Saturday night while Bowling For Soup (Academy) go head to head with Richie Kotzen at Trillians on Sunday. And there’s more… Read the rest of this entry »

Heaven's Basement tourThree of Britain’s best young bands are set to deliver the Christmas present classic rock fans crave in December after hooking up for what should be a belting night of riff-fueled action.

Hard working, hard gigging quintet Heaven’s Basement headline a three-band bill featuring Global Music’s Dear Superstar and this week’s Kerrang! stars New Device – signed to Classic Rock Magazine’s Powerage label.

“This is a tour we’ve been talking about since ourselves and HB supported Buckcherry a couple of months back,” Dear Superstar frontman Micky Satiar told rushonrock. “The two bands get on great and the tour brings together some of the best new music this country has to offer.” Read the rest of this entry »

Review – The Wildhearts

Wildhearts (1)@ Newcastle o2 Academy, September 28 2009

Monday night madness in the O2 Academy with The Black Spiders and The Wildhearts playing some absolute mind blowing rock anthems.  The night began with some big metal riffs and a pounding rhythm section.

The Black Spiders stated on their MySpace page ‘if you like the first three albums that Black Sabbath did then you will like The Black Spiders’. Comparing themselves to Black Sabbath was possibly a bit optimistic but although they do not quite fill the whole boot, they are a few sizes of it  – a very entertaining band. During a thrilling 30-minute set the highlight was The Force. Read the rest of this entry »
