As revealed exclusively right here last month, Joe Elliott’s Mott The Hoople tribute band Down N Outz will play the main stage on the second day of this year’s High Voltage festival in London’s Victoria Park.

The band, featuring the Leppard frontman and various members of the Quireboys, release their debut album as a cover mounted CD via Classic Rock magazine next month. And of course the Quireboys will be opening up the High Voltage main stage on Sunday July 25 before hooking up with Joe an hour or so later.

“When Mott The Hoople announced they were reforming for a weeks worth of shows at the Hammersmith Odeon I was asked that I participate in some capacity, ” explained Elliott. “They’ve always been my favourite band and it’s nice to see the rest of the rock world finally catch up and give them their due. Expect an announcement soon from Mott The Hoople tribute act Down N Outz as the Def Leppard/Quireboys supergroup work towards releasing an album and DVD in 2010.

As a result of the rave reviews which followed their support slot on the final night of Mott The Hoople’s reunion tour, frontman Joe Elliott has been beavering away at his Dublin studio compiling a CD of Mott rarities.

And the Down N Outz live set is being edited with a photo gallery of the show and the pre and post-gig shenanigans being mooted as a DVD extra. Read the rest of this entry »

wednesday-tallSteve Vai might have had the good sense to delay the release of his new album for seven days (we’ll rate it right here next Sunday) but we’re still bringing you the rushonrock verdict on a whopping eight albums this week – including the debut from Wednesday 13′s (pictured) new project Gunfire 76.

There’s the story so far from Funeral For A Friend, a triumph though adversity from Paramore and a punk rock double via Bullets And Octane. Heavyweight Best Of releases by Rainbow and Mott The Hoople slug it out for the heritage vote and we’ve got Germany’s Toja and Italy’s Fab Box flying the flag for Euro rock. Four sixths of the Quireboys will join 20 per cent of Def Leppard for a very special show in support of Mott The Hoople’s sold-out Hammersmith Odeon show next month.

Supergroup the Down N Outs will open Mott’s October 6 show in London with Quireboys’ axe slinger Paul Guerin admitting: “You won’t want to miss this one. I certainly don’t!”
