Perhaps he should be receiving the degree of Doctor of Notes (both for those he has hit and those he has earned), rather than that of Doctor of Letters, but next Friday will see one of the greatest names in rock honoured by his hometown university.

And not before time.

Paul Rodgers is, quite simply, at the top of his game as a revered rock vocalist and perennial entertainer. Read the rest of this entry »

To anyone outside of London the North East must seem like a tiny little corner of an unwelcoming world, where in-breds and flat cap wearing weirdos speak like Brian Johnson and dress like Ginger on a bad day.

But we don’t really care about that. Because we’re bloody good at what we do and, most importantly, shouting about it from the rooftops. Johnno, Spike and Paul from the Quireboys and even Teesside crooners David Coverdale and Paul Rodgers never miss an opportunity to namecheck Newcastle, Blyth, Saltburn, Middlesbrough or wherever. rushonrock Goes Upmarket

One of this website’s aims is, and always will be, to spread the word of rock. And if, through our loose association with Middlesbrough football club’s Emanuel ‘Mad Dog’ Pogatetz, we can do just that then you won’t hear anyone inside rushonrock towers complaining.

And it is thanks to Manu that the esteemed British broadsheet, The Guardian, dedicated today’s transfer rumours section to rock. Check out the following link and see if you can trump ace scribe Tom Bryant’s valiant attempt to shoe-horn as many rock references as possible into one football yarn: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2008/oct/01/newcastleunited.tottenhamhotspur

Of course rushonrock is no stranger to the national dailies following cameo roles in the Daily Mirror and Matt Dunn’s Daily Express column. Again the fact that the latter chose to examine the link between Mr Pogatetz’s love of all things metallic and the odd rash tackle doesn’t bother us one jot.

When was the last time you saw Anthrax’s Caught In A Mosh or Metallica’s The Unforgiven III namechecked in the national sports pages? Oh, that’ll be never then. But get ready for more rock and goal news very soon..

ps: thanks to Black Tide for appearing on this post for no reason other than they look pretty damn metal in this pose.

Pog Rocks!

With just 24 hours to go before world football’s transfer deadline expires a delighted rushonrock can reveal our biggest signing yet!

Metallica fan Emanuel ‘Mad Dog’ Pogatetz is our new guest reviewer after proving his credentials during a brief interview this weekend.

And Middlesbrough hard man Pog will be penning his first words of wisdom once he returns from international duty with his native Austria next week.

The tough tackling centre half likes his music loud and heavy and when he mentioned Black Stone Cherry in conversation with our very own Self Made Man – check out his new blog now – the deal was done.

Pog told rushonrock: “I love my rock music but I don’t get the time to listen to enough or always see the bands I like. This gives me a chance to do that!”

Pog Rock will appear here soon and don’t be surprised if Death Magnetic gets a mention….
