Posted by simon On April - 22 - 2009 1 COMMENT

inthismoment2Fresh from storming Give It A Name 2009, hot US band In This Moment are heading to Japan and expect sales of new album The Dream to soar.

With lead singer Maria Brink showing her softer side and melodic twists mixed with the band’s early metalcore there has never been a better time to catch up with one of this year’s buzz bands.

They’ll be back to play Download in the summer but rushonrock put drummer Jeff Fabb and guitar god Blake Bunzell on the spot before they headed out of Britain. Read the rest of this entry »

cape-fear-picLondon boys Cape Fear (pictured) are up north this week headlining what promises to be one of the rock events of the year at Newcastle’s Cluny.

Opening up are local faves Remedy and the meat in the middle comes in the shape of the fantastic Fables Last Stand - fresh from their showcase set at Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena on Friday. But another cracking week of live action kicks off at Newcastle’s City Hall tonight when electric bluesman Gary Moore takes to the stage. If you’re there message us with a quick review via the Contact Us page link above…

We’ll be reviewing Iron Maiden’s Flight 666 after tomorrow night’s North East showings and there’s an exclusive interview with In This Moment following last week’s superb set at Newcastle’s o2 Academy. And there’s more. Read the rest of this entry »

Rock O’ The North…Pt36

rock-o-the-northCan women rock? Does a band actually benefit from being fronted by a female or are they more likely to suffer? And how many acts have gained instant exposure due to the sex of their singer only to sink without trace so much quicker than their peers?

All these questions and more popped into my head during an intense 30-minute set by US metallers In This Moment in front of a sparse Newcastle crowd this week. On a four band bill they were the only act I was interested in and that was due, in no small part, to the fact that vocalist Maria Brink looks as good as she sounds. Read the rest of this entry »

Review – In This Moment

mariabrink@ Newcastle o2 Academy, April 14 2009

Like their endearing frontwoman, In This Moment’s blistering set was short but incredibly sweet.

Second band on in front of a disappointingly sparse Give It A Name Introducing crowd, the US metal stars were clearly the act most fans had come to see and by 9pm a half-full venue suddenly emptied further.

At about this time ITM’s Maria Brink must have been backstage wondering what it will take for her band to break into the UK mainstream. A higher profile gig than this would be a start and a surprising slot on a shoddy tour has done one of 2009′s rising stars no good at all. Read the rest of this entry »

We take a look at the music behind the image and give you the lowdown on what could be the rock and metal compilation of the year – Crobar Volume One.

But if that’s not enough then how about introducing some Italian glam metal into your life? If you always had a soft spot for bands like Poison, Ratt, Faster Pussycat and the ilk then you could just learn to love the Romans of KnyghtRead the rest of this entry »
