Slash believes Aussie rockers Airbourne are the best new rock and roll band around after bigging up his Roadrunner label mates at Download 2010.

Both bands thrilled the crowds at Castle Donington on Sunday with the former GnR axe slinger enjoying a main stage slot and Airbourne second from top on the Ronnie James Dio stage.

And when Slash was asked which band on the bill he liked most the Velvet Revolver star said: “It’s got to be Airbourne – those guys are pehnomenal.

“As far as new rock and roll bands are concerned right now there haven’t been a lot of insanely great acts for some time.

“It’s hard to say who else I’d pick but Airbourne rock!”

The AC/DC soundalikes were confirmed as Hard Rock Hell headliners at the weekend where they will join fellow Downloaders Saxon.

Hard Rock Hell IV might be a mammoth nine months away but we’re already salivating at a line-up which just keeps getting better.

Not content with boasting an appearance by the mighty Michael Schenker, his old band UFO have just been added to the two-day rock fest in Prestatyn.

NWOBHM fans are in for a double treat at Hard Rock Hell: Pirates Of Prestatyn after festival chiefs announced the latest big names to bag main stage slots.

Original Iron Maiden singer Paul Di Anno will play a set full to bursting of classic tracks from the Killers and Iron Maiden albums.
