Only last month Duff McKagan told rushonrock that the debut solo material recorded by former Guns N Roses colleague and Velvet Revolver band mate Slash as some of the best shit he’s heard in ages. And that’s just on the evidence of the first three tracks!
But it seems the major rock labels have been falling over themselves to secure the rights to what promises to be one of 2010’s must-have albums and those veteran campaigners Roadrunner have finally sealed the deal.
Interestingly the Spring 2010 release will be avialable first in the UK as part of a special package with Classic Rock magazine – the renowned publication producing a Slash special featuring the axe hero’s solo debut. Read the rest of this entry »

We can’t wait to catch a true rock god in Tyneside next week and if you can catch any of Loaded’s shows then do it! Read the rest of this entry »

Yes, Duff McKagan’s checking in again ahead of his support slot with hot US band Black Stone Cherry – a bill also featuring one of the bass player’s favourite new bands in the shape of Parlor Mob. We can’t wait. But before then we have Papa Roach, Madina Lake and Heaven’s Basement playing Newcastle’s o2 Academy on Tuesday – plus Wolf at Trillians – and a gig-tastic weekend coming up.

Slash’s new solo record will blow fans away according to one of the musicians who knows him best – and an individual who has heard at least three of the songs set to feature on the guitar hero’s much anticipated album.
Fellow former Gunner and Velvet Revolver band mate Duff McKagan laid down a track with Stoke’s finest earlier this week – completing a rhythm section which featured Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl. And that meaty collaboration is just the tip of an incredibly creative iceberg according to one of the people closest to Slash’s star-studded side project. Read the rest of this entry »

Legendary Guns N Roses hero Duff McKagan has taken a leaf out of big mate Spike’s book and thrown his weight behind Newcastle United’s promotion push.
The Velvet Revolver and Loaded man is a mad keen sports fan and follows all of the sides in his home city of Seattle. But McKagan chose to follow Arsenal in the Premier League after catching the Gunners on ESPN. Read the rest of this entry »

Finland might not seem like the most natural destination for the North East’s finest new rock and roll band but a trip across the North Sea could be the making of Fables Last Stand. rushonrock editor Simon Rushworth reports.
They’ve recorded some of their most anthemic tunes at the Vancouver home of Bryan Adams, opened up for blues rock legends UFO and fellow Geordies the Quireboys and last month they finally completed the mix for debut album Love & Exile. But Fables Last Stand want more. Read the rest of this entry »

Pearl Jam – Backspacer Gatefold Vinyl Edition (Universal)
We’ve had a week to judge whether this might well be the best Pearl Jam record we’ve ever heard and the verdict? It is.
Incredibly it sounds like the record Eddie Vedder and co. might have been expected to deliver at a time when hair metal dominated and grunge was in its infancy.
Influenced more by classic rock than the Seattle scene, it’s polished, often upbeat and always challenging. In fact, if you’ve always been put off Pearl Jam because of their roots then it’s time to give the band their due – and your time – in 2009. Read the rest of this entry »

So Vince Neil, conscious that his band have a new (sort of) record to sell, has gone and badmouthed Axl Rose for letting down his fans in the wake of the decade-old Chinese Democracy saga.
The Motley Crue singer has criticised his fellow American for failing devotees of the biggest rock and roll band on the planet by taking an eternity to release a new album, failing to rehearse with his revolving door band and finally shelving plans to tour any time soon. Guns N’ Roses – Sweet Child Of Mine (Edit/Remix) (Guns N’ Roses) b/w Out Ta Get Me (Guns N’ Roses) 1988
The third single from the phenomenally successful Appetite For Destruction, this remains the band’s only US number one to date.
And if the song is known for Axl’s emotive vocal then it’s just as famous for the iconic Slash solo which ushers in a typical slice of GNR magic.
Sweet Child O’ Mine followed It’s So Easy and Welcome To The Jungle off the band’s debut album and became a huge global hit. Robert John’s sleazy cover shot adorning the UK seven incher looks as if the five musos have literally walked in off the street for a five-minute photo shoot – Slash holding a brown paper bag unlikely to contain his cough medicine.
