This time next week my four-year-old daughter’s anticipation will be reaching fever pitch. All her dreams will be on the verge of coming true.
Her dad will finally be talking to someone who really matters.
She thinks it’s all very well conversing with Alice Cooper. She takes a passing interest in the ‘Cherry Black Stones’ and is keen to meet any deaf leopard or white snake given the chance. Read the rest of this entry »

Frontman Jack Russell has experienced his fair share of highs and lows as the lead singer of US blues rock stars Great White. But the band famous for the tragic Station Nightclub fire is enjoying a well earned swansong on the back of recent studio albums Back To The Rhythm and 2009’s outstanding Rising – with a US tour in full swing this summer.
We caught up with one of the most amiable men in rock and discovered he can’t wait to hit UK venues again – once he’s kicked back with a couple of Newcastle Brown Ales by the side of his Palm Springs pool. Read the rest of this entry »

Here at rushonrock we’ve never been afraid to nail our colours to the mast when it comes to bigging up the music we love most. And Def Leppard are and always have been one of the best bands on the planet in our very humble opinion.
To celebrate their return to Donington and their prestigious closing set at Download 2009 we’ve lined up a week of Leppard mania including exclusive interviews, archive reviews and a full festival preview.
Kicking off with a look at the re-released and repackaged versions of Pyromania and Adrenalize we’ll also be talking to axe hero Phil Collen ahead of a busy week for the former Girl man. There’s a special edition of The Vinyl Word featuring our favourite slabs of Lepp plastic and we roll back the years to Sheffield Don Valley Stadium 1993 - a phenomenal event which relaunched the Steel City stars almost 16 years ago to the day.
But if the NWOBHM pioneers aren’t your cup of tea then don’t fear. There’s more, much more… Read the rest of this entry »

More good news for fans of the North East live scene after US blues rockers Great White insisted they can’t wait to reprise their 2008 Newcastle Academy show.
Speaking exclusively to rushonrock from his Palm Springs home, frontman Jack Russell admitted last year’s Toon show still rates among the very best the reformed band has played.
And with new record Rising already winning rave reviews over here (including a ror 8/10) it seems it’s only a matter of time before the platinum-selling act return to these shores. “Obviously the economic climate is very different now to what it was at the beginning of last year,” Russell said. Shock rocker Wednesday 13 returns with a new EP and you’ll snigger at the new record from Todd Youth’s band Chelsea Smiles. Throw in the latest offerings from Wetton Downes, Fake Problems and Street Legal and you really are spoilt for choice. Read the rest of this entry »
44: Mr Big – Just Take My Heart (Martin/Pessis/Call) b/w To Be With You (live) (Martin/Grahame) 1992
The lesser known of the two standout singles from Mr Big’s breakthrough album Lean Into It this is another slick slice of All-American FM-friendly soft rock guaranteed to find favour with the hair metal generation.
It may not have topped the charts Stateside like the classic To Be With You but the great thing about this slab of seven inch heaven is the B-side – a barnstorming live version of the band’s best-known anthem. Read the rest of this entry »

Legendary US rockers Great White will release new record Rising on March 16 after completing work on the eagerly-anticipated follow-up to 2007’s brilliant Back To The Rhythm.
Those of us fortunate enough to see Jack and the boys in full flow at Newcastle’s Academy II last year can’t wait to hear what the rejuvenated US stars have up their sleeve next month. But an early listen of some of the new songs suggests the boys haven’t deviated too much from their tried and tested formula of straight ahead rock and roll. Which suits us just fine.
