Electric Boys – Mary In The Mystery World (Bloom) b/w Knee Deep in You (Bloom) & Why Don’t We Do It In The Road? (Lennon/McCartney)

Limited Edition Numbered Clear Vinyl Etched Disc

1992

Swede Conny Bloom was one of the finest songwriters to come out of the late 80s glam/funk scene and this iconic track was a firm favourite with the hair metal crowd.

Supercharged yet psychedelic, the Electric Boys could mix it with the very best and this single, taken from their second album, Groovus Maximus, typified the band’s ability to cross genres and appeal to a wider crowd. Read the rest of this entry »

rock-o-the-north

Maybe it’s too early to make this wild and wonderful claim but is Newcastle about to reclaim its title as one of the UK’s hotbeds of rock?

A series of sold-out Academy dates in 2009, coupled with a vibrant club scene and forthcoming arena dates with two of the region’s favourite sons, Paul Rodgers and Mark Knopfler, suggest as much.

And glowing endorsements from bands as diverse as The Answer, Machine Head and New Generation Superstars imply a city once famous for boasting the biggest rock club in Europe is about to bounce back.  Read the rest of this entry »

vaintik@ Newcastle Trillians, November 25 2009

This gig would have been inconceivable a decade ago but thanks to the long overdue revival of all things glammed up and hairy, the one and only Davy Vain rolled back the years in front of a boistrous and adoring crowd.

Those who claim one of prettiest boys of the late 80s scene has become a bloated parody of his former self should revise that opinion. And fast. Looking fitter than a bunch of blokes half his age and with the old pipes still in ear piercing form, Vain is a frontman quite capable of delivering unfinished business in some style. vixenVixen – Cryin’ (Tripp/Paris) b/w Desperate (Miku/Santos/Kuehnemund) 1988

The all-girl hair metal band’s biggest hit on both sides of the Atlantic, pop rocker Cryin’ crashed the Top 40 in the US and the UK.

At a time when the men looked more like women it was only the obviously feminine band name and flashes of bronzed cleavage which gave the game away as far as these four ladies from  Minnesota were concerned. Even so, certain critics suggested the pretty boys of Poison were still sexier than these four foxes at the forefront of the LA glam scene. Read the rest of this entry »
