Four weeks after axe slinger Roadsy hinted as much to rushonrock, Oz rockers Airbourne have been confirmed for Download 2010!

On a day when more than 20 new acts were announced – and organiser Andy Copping revealed he’d tapped up Led Zeppelin for a set – we’re delighted the AC/DC clones are joining their inspiration on another blast of a bill.

Also confirmed are Steel Panther, Saxon, HIM, Cinderella and Ratt! Read the rest of this entry »

Review – HIM & Dommin

@ Newcastle o2 Academy, March 16 2010

It’s always good when a band can blast you with their crescendo of ideas and light a bulb in the mind or a fire in the soul.

When love is the theme, Finnish rockers HIM know how to barrage the crowd with a dark bliss of lost love to leave you thinking about the heart-wrenching skeletons in the closet.  On a night of croonings, wanings and screams HIM and US band Dommin (pictured) flashed by Newcastle on their current tour.  Read the rest of this entry »

This Week on RUSHONROCK: Steel Panther Week!!

Posted by simon On March - 15 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

There comes a time when all of us need to step back from the more serious side of the music we love and simply enjoy a dose of overblown excess. That time has come.

As Steel Panther make a welcome return to these shores we’ll be looking at the band’s finer lyrical moments, delivering an exclusive interview with pretty boy Lexxi Foxxx and reviewing their Newcastle show.

For those of you who just don’t understand the whole spoof metal scene it’s time to chill out or trot off. We’re not saying the Panther will ever come close to Queensryche, Dream Theatre or Rush but what they lack in terms of mental capacity they more than make up for in sheer showmanship.

We’re not afraid to laugh at ourselves when it comes to some of our more controversial metal tastes. But we’d rather laugh at – and with – Steel Panther. If you’re still not convinced then there’s still a load more stuff going on this week… Read the rest of this entry »

Rock Solid

Posted by simon On February - 14 - 2010 1 COMMENT

Valentine’s Day may be all about red roses, big hearts and sloppy kisses but not if you’re a member of HIM or Dommin. We look at two of rock’s chief anti-love protagonists and a whole load of other stuff this week.

There’s the long awaited Best Of from our favourite Scando sleaze kings Backyard Babies (pictured) and the debut solo album from Cradle Of Filth crooner Sarah Jezebel Deva.

Throw in some seriously heavy shit from Rising Records’ label mates Sworn Amongst and With Chaos In Her Wake and there’s plenty to keep the metal heads out there happy. Plus we check out a snappy debut from buzz band Straight Lines – fresh from a triumphant 2009 touring with Kids In Glass Houses, The Automatic and Motorhead. Read the rest of this entry »

EXCLUSIVE – Dommin Interview

Posted by simon On February - 9 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Tipped as one of the bands to watch in 2010 we’ve got a sneaking feeling Dommin will do for Roadrunner Records what Black Stone Cherry did a couple of years back and shift a shedload of records to rock fans the world over.

With a decade of songwriting and gigging under his belt, main man Kristoffer Dommin is no new kid on the block – he’s got the rockstar credentials and the experience to match.

Having blown away UK audiences as the opening act for Lacuna Coil, the LA band return to these shores in March with H.I.M.. Before they do we caught up with Kris. Read the rest of this entry »

This Week On RUSHONROCK

Posted by simon On February - 8 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Glam metal takes centre stage this week as dolled up heroes Faster Pussycat and Enuff Z’Nuff join forces to roll back the rock years – we review both bands right here.

Continuing the theme and we welcome the Electric Boys to our hot new vinyl feature – 12@12. And there’s some great craic with 2010′s take on homegrown hair metal – The Crave – as the band debut on the rushonrock Rider.

Ensuring your fave site maintains a heavier edge we’ll rate Lamb Of God on their metal as hell UK headline tour. And there’s an exclusive interview with buzz band Dommin as they toast a successful tour with Lacuna Coil and look forward to more UK dates with H.I.M.. And there’s more. Dommin Your Way

Posted by simon On January - 29 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

LA goth rock crew Dommin are being widely tipped as the next big thing to come out of the Roadrunner stable and they hit the UK this week in support of the excellent Lacuna Coil.

With debut album Love Is Gone out the day after Valentine’s Day all those anti-romantics will be licking their cold lips with glee.

And if you don’t get the chance to deliver your verdict on Dommin don’t despair (or do, if that’s what floats your boat) – the US rockers will be supporting the ultimate goth rock heroes H.I.M. in March. And we’re hoping to bring you an exclusive interview with the band right here very soon. Read the rest of this entry »
