Valentine’s Day may be all about red roses, big hearts and sloppy kisses but not if you’re a member of HIM or Dommin. We look at two of rock’s chief anti-love protagonists and a whole load of other stuff this week.
There’s the long awaited Best Of from our favourite Scando sleaze kings Backyard Babies (pictured) and the debut solo album from Cradle Of Filth crooner Sarah Jezebel Deva.
Throw in some seriously heavy shit from Rising Records’ label mates Sworn Amongst and With Chaos In Her Wake and there’s plenty to keep the metal heads out there happy. Plus we check out a snappy debut from buzz band Straight Lines – fresh from a triumphant 2009 touring with Kids In Glass Houses, The Automatic and Motorhead. Read the rest of this entry »

Today’s the day when rock and metal fans from around the world descend on a little place in Derbyshire for the best festival on the planet. And if you’re there bright and early then why not kick off the Download 2009 experience with one of rushonrock’s picks of the year in the shape of good lookin’, hard rockin’ US rabble rousers Steadlur?
Opening up on the second stage from 1pm, the band responsible for a blistering self-titled debut album are determined to get the crowd in the mood for mini headliners Motley Crue. And bass dude Daniel Steadlur admitted: “This whole experience is just unbelievable. Read the rest of this entry »

It is still a little known fact among parents-to-be, even in these times of economic gloom and deepening recession, that there is what amounts to an unwritten rule concerning unforeseen births on shop floors.
Should you or your partner happen to pop out your offspring slap bang in the middle of Boots, somewhere between the frozen fish and French Fancies in Marks & Sparks or in the John Lewis home furnishings department, then you could be in luck.
For these stores and many more have a tradition of lavishing gifts upon parents who divert from their chosen birth plan to set out their stall, so to speak, in a shop – and as a first-time father some four years ago I was only too aware of the bonuses on offer.
But not for me the lure of a year’s supply of free nappies, a basket full of cod or a nice pair of curtains. No, once I knew my original little rocker was on the way the potential birthing pool was strictly limited. Read the rest of this entry »

One of the best gigging bands on the planet have just completed the latest leg of a 18-month worldwide jaunt in support of 2008’s superb self-titled album but Backyard Babies still have time to chew the fat with rushonrock.
Frontman Nicke Borg has never been one to mince his words and this time around he claims there are too many poor bands populating the live scene and admits he’s fed up with life on the road. Other than that he’s loving life! Read the rest of this entry »

It’s been a long, hard slog but workaholic shock rocker Wednesday 13 is finally bringing his Skeletons tour to an end before embarking on yet another US jaunt with side project Bourbon Crow.
rushonrock caught up with the man who makes a living out of writing about zombies and ghouls before he switches his attention to country rock and a summer off.
We’ll all miss Wednesday while he’s away but this bloke won’t be gone for long. And when he’s back expect this site to be one of his first ports of call… Read the rest of this entry »

Backyard Babies mainman Nicke Borg has admitted the Swedes are gutted that they can’t get on a UK festival bill this summer – despite nailing spots across Europe.
With the band still riding high on the back of last year’s self-titled album the UK is readying itself for more sleaze rock action as the fourpiece embark on a co-headline tour with The Rasmus. But those of us expecting the Babies to pop up at Download, Sonisphere or Leeds/Reading this summer look like being sorely disappointed. Read the rest of this entry »

He’s just out of the picture (left) but Thunder’s Danny Bowes isn’t normally backwards in coming forward – hence we always enjoy a chin wag with one of the finest frontmen in rock. And with the Brit heroes counting down the days before they finally call it a day (again) rushonrock grabbed the voice behind Love Walked In to take us through why Thunder are bowing out.
One performer with plenty left in the tank is shock rocker Wednesday 13 and one of the jewels in the Global Music crown returns to his record label’s home tomorrow ahead of what promises to be a typically weird o2 Academy show in Newcastle. And he’s bringing along label mates The Chelsea Smiles along for the ride… Read the rest of this entry »

Am I dreaming or is this year’s Download finally harking back to its true Monsters Of Rock roots?
The premier metal festival of the summer has always tried to throw up as diverse an array of hard rocking big hitters as possible.
Yet the hair metal heritage acts have been few and far between. Rifle through a list of bands which played at the inaugural event back in 2004 and the flavour was very much nu-metal, industrial metal, alt metal and indie rock. Nothing wrong with that but you’d have been hard pressed to find a blues rock standard or a soft metal ballad. Most people who forked out for tickets that year would have baulked at the very idea… Read the rest of this entry »

Belgium and heavy rock – hardly a match made in music heaven and yet we might just have turned up the teenage sensations to change all that in the shape of the fresh-faced duo who are The Black Box Revelation.
OK, so the lad on the left doesn’t even look old enough to listen to Led Zeppelin – let alone play gigs where beer is flowing and groupies are cavorting – and yet Jan Paternoster (19) and Dries Von Dijck (17) manage to make quite an impression as rock gods in the making.
Their rock and roll sleaze with bluesy edges will appeal to fans of Zepp just as much as fans of Backyard Babies and the Rolling Stones. There’s only two of ‘em but at least there won’t ever be too many musical differences. Read the rest of this entry »
