The Teutonic trailblazers celebrate their 15th anniversary with their highest profile British shows to date and arrive on these shores on the back of US and Chinese shows.

Hellfire’s Sax Appeal

SaxonNWOBHM pioneers Saxon have been confirmed as Saturday headliners at the 2009 Hellfire Festival in Birmingham.

And the veteran metallers will be joined by resurgent reality movie stars Anvil with the Canadian crew confirmed as main support to Biff and the boys.

Saxon delivered a typically robust set as the Sonisphere festival made its Knebworth debut at the weekend. But adding them to the bill at the NEC on November 7 is a real coup for Hellfire bosses as they combine the 10th anniversary of Music Live with a slew of hard rocking bands across three days. When Europe and Joey Tempest were selling copies of The Final Countdown by the bucketload the band regularly flew by private jet to perform two sets in two different venues in one day.

They were relocated en masse to San Francisco by a record company for whom money was no object and travelled everywhere with at least four bodyguards. Only the best hotels would do, only the biggest dressing rooms would suffice and only the most outrageous riders would satisfy. That was the excess synonymous with 80s success.
