MIND BENDING

If 2010′s already shaping up as a vintage year for unexpected aural pleasures then one release has got everyone at rushonrock HQ more excited than most.

Our sneak preview copy of Zodiac Mindwarp’s first new studio album for five years has been enjoying constant rotation ahead of its September release.

And the original Tattooed Beat Messiah looks like he’s warming up nicely for back-to-back supports with old buddy Alice Cooper around Halloween. Read the rest of this entry »

MAYDAY, MAYDAY

Posted by simon On August - 9 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Prolific Florida pop punks Mayday Parade are set to unleash their third album in as many years next month with a full UK tour to follow.

And we’re pretty sure Anywhere But Here will maintain an upward curve which has seen the Give It A Name tour favourites win an army of frenzied fans on this side of The Pond.

Singer Derek Sanders said: “We really just wanted to follow our own path on this record and not worry about if we fit in anywhere. The songs are much more structured than we’ve done in the past.” Read the rest of this entry »

Another mixed bag of new rock and metal sees upcoming Londoners Gentlemen Of Distorted Sound (pictured) deliver their debut mini album and the disturbingly named Cult Of Whores And Dogs unleash their new EP.

There’s some major league metal in the shape of heavy hitters Vendetta and another slice of pop punk all the way from the USA as Just Surrender bid to break through in the British market. Read the rest of this entry »

REVIEW – NEW RELEASES

Posted by simon On August - 1 - 2010 1 COMMENT

August is upon us and if you’re a fan of top notch rock and metal then tomorrow’s new releases ensure you’ll be totally spoilt for choice.

There’s the post-Rev return of Avenged Sevenfold, the retro cool comeback from sleaze merchants Buckcherry and a slice of India’s finest from Demonic Resurrection.

Throw in the debut album from the Rick Rubin-endorsed Violent Soho plus some old school fantasy metal in the shape of Blind Guardian and late summer has never sounded so good! Read the rest of this entry »

Rock Solid

They’ve long been touted as potential stars and this week we review and rate the major label debut of US heroes Circa Survive.

There’s a look at a typically heavy offering from 36 Crazyfists and we run the rule over 80s throwbacks Kickhunter.

Plus there’s the return of the mighty Hawkwind and some serious metal from Sister Sin. Read the rest of this entry »

We’ve jumped on the Lynyrd Skynyrd bandwagon just a little bit late but we’ve finally reviewed and rated the Southern Rock stars’ latest live album.

Elswehere we check out the new releases by Winterfylleth, Limbonic Art and new kids on the block Dirty Sweet.

Plus we revisit one of 2009′s finest releases as Therapy?‘s Crooked Timber gets the deluxe treatment.

Killing Time

Posted by simon On July - 15 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

It’s the first time the original line-up has worked together in a staggering 28 years but September sees Killing Joke release their brand new album Absolute Dissent.

Self-produced, the 12-track record features Jaz Coleman, Geordie Walker, Youth and Paul Ferguson and will be released on several formats including a double 12 inch coloured vinyl!

Youth – a revered producer in his own right – enlisted the help of knob twiddling buddy Clive Goddard to ensure Killing Joke delivered a true return to form. And we’re confident nothing has been left to chance in bringing this much anticipated project to a sonically charged conclusion. Read the rest of this entry »

Live ‘Force

Posted by simon On July - 5 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

After 11 years and four studio albums the mighty Dragonforce have finally found the time to unleash a live album capturing their pure rock fury – with Twilight Dementia due this autumn.

The success of 2008′s Ultra Beatdown has piled the pressure on Herman Li and his mates to head back into the studio and head out on the road – simultaneously! But a long overdue live record was always on the Dragonforce agenda and Spinefarm will release what should be one of the highlights of the metal year on September 13.

“For years, fans have been asking us to record a live album but, honestly, we never really had the time due to our worldwide touring commitments and studio album recording,” explained Li. Read the rest of this entry »

Added Sugar

We loved Dead Confederate’s brooding debut Wrecking Ball and the Georgian crew return with what promises to be another slab of gritty US rock this summer.

Sugar is released on August 23 with lead single Giving It All Away out the previous week.

And that’s just what Dead Confederate are doing right now with the tune available for a limited time via the band’s official website. Read on for the link… Read the rest of this entry »

Hard gigging, hard rocking Aussies Violent Soho launch their latest push for UK glory with the release of spanking new single Jesus Stole My Girlfriend later this month.

Counting Thurston Moore and Rick Rubin among their biggest fans – both hand a hand in the band making it big Stateside – and with some cracking tunes under their belt there’s every chance Violent Soho will find favour with a whole new audience this side of The Pond.

And if you need convincing then we’ve decided to bring you a clip of Jesus Stole My Girlfriend - out on July 26 via Defacto. Read the rest of this entry »
