Download: Slash And ‘Bourne

Posted by simon On June - 15 - 2010 1 COMMENT

Slash believes Aussie rockers Airbourne are the best new rock and roll band around after bigging up his Roadrunner label mates at Download 2010.

Both bands thrilled the crowds at Castle Donington on Sunday with the former GnR axe slinger enjoying a main stage slot and Airbourne second from top on the Ronnie James Dio stage.

And when Slash was asked which band on the bill he liked most the Velvet Revolver star said: “It’s got to be Airbourne – those guys are pehnomenal.

“As far as new rock and roll bands are concerned right now there haven’t been a lot of insanely great acts for some time.

“It’s hard to say who else I’d pick but Airbourne rock!”

The AC/DC soundalikes were confirmed as Hard Rock Hell headliners at the weekend where they will join fellow Downloaders Saxon.

Chris Ready For First Kiss

Outspoken Taking Dawn frontman Chris Babbit is not an individual who lacks confidence and we’re predicting quite a show when hits the UK arena scene with Kiss this weekend.

But even one of the coolest customers in rock he can’t hide his boyish excitement just 48 hours from the opening night at Sheffield Arena.

Back in the UK after a run of support slots with label mates Airbourne, a buzzing Babbit told rushonrock: “I was asked how much we’re looking forward to this tour! Is that a trick question?  BLOODY FUCKIN’ MARVELOUS!!!!!!!!! Read the rest of this entry »

Review – Airbourne, Black Spiders & Taking Dawn

@ Newcastle o2 Academy, April 8 2010

The Airbourne identity: frantic, fun-loving, loud and proud. As a bunch of hard rocking, hard living Aussies you’d expect nothing less from a quartet committed to their trade in crunching riffs and raucous choruses.

But it’s just impossible to prepare for the aural assault that is Airbourne – even if you think you can. And it’s just as difficult predicting where hyper frontman Joel O’Keeffe might end up during the course of a show which takes rock and roll right back to its performance-led roots.

The vibrant vocalist shows no signs of kicking his habit for straying far beyond the boundaries of the stage. But tonight he went way beyond the bars favoured by support band Taking Dawn and went on a little trip through the masses, out the back, up the stairs, onto the balcony (almost over the balcony) and back again. Crazy stuff. Read the rest of this entry »

Renowned for their high energy live shows and occasional likeness to fellow countrymen AC/DC it’s little wonder the quartet are one of the most talked about bands in the world.

We keep hearing very good things about US crew Taking Dawn and next week we’ll actually get the chance to hear them as the Roadrunner mob support label mates Airbourne across the UK.

But what was already going to be a big year for the hard rocking quartet could become huge after they bagged the opening slot on Kiss’ 2010 arena tour.

Frontman and guitarist Chris Babbitt is excited at the prospect of hitting the Sonic Boom tour and admitted: “I still think my guys are fucking with me. Read the rest of this entry »
