quireboys us tour poster final 600pxThe Quireboys are rolling across North America throughout August and genial guide Paul Guerin is taking RUSHONROCK readers along for the ride.

Join the band’s guitarist all month as he delivers a behind-the-scenes taste of life on the road as the rock n roll heroes celebrate their 30th anniversary in style.

Look out for more right here soon!

I really didn’t want to leave Nashville but we had to get a wriggle on and embark on the lengthy road trip to Dallas.

Suddenly we had a eureka moment and realised we were heading towards Memphis! Graceland it is then fellas!

Keith and I had visited this hallowed ground – the home of the king of rock n roll – way back in 1996 when we were recording Domestic Blues with Bap Kennedy and Steve Earle in Nashville.

Dave Mcclusky had been here recently when he was on tour with The Union but Griff, Spike and Dom hadn’t had the pleasure. I’m so pleased we did the trip as there was so much I had forgotten about the place.

I actually welled up a bit when I saw the leather ‘68 comeback special suit – it meant that much to me as did the house, the cars, the bikes the planes…pure magic.

My mam used to sing Love Me Tender to me when I was a baby to send me off to the land of nod so you could say me and Elvis go back a long way.

We didn’t get a chance to go to Sun Studios as time wasn’t on our side as usual. Luckily I went there in ’96 and if you love music you realise the importance and magic of the place – just like when we stood in Studio B in Nashville.

The musical history takes your breath away…’put your sweet lips a little closer to the phone and let’s pretend we’re together all alone’ (Jim Reeves).

I forgot to mention I met Sam Philips (Sun Records) at a book signing in London. I was there with Edward the troubadour (???? ha ha) – lots of Googling subject matter for some of you out there…

Next stop was our daily fix of Subway. Salad, soup and an Italian BMT on flatbread has been my staple diet on this trip…bloody loverly.

Five hours later we were in the Ramada Hotel in Arkanses – me, Gazz and Griff having our traditional nightcap of honey wild turkey on the rocks…even lovelier.

Nite yawl
