venom sleeveWe’re not quite sure what those nice boys from Stryper will make of all of this but just as they’re about to release their latest collection of Christian rock classics in the UK those infamous spoilers Venom decide to unleash Hell at the same time!

Yep, with timing typical of the origninal Geordie doom crew, the band’s seminal Black Metal gets the full deluxe treatment on September 14 and we’ve only gone and grabbed a blood-soaked promo copy to get into the mood. And the mood, of course, is pretty dark.

With a tracklisting very similar to 2002 reissue of Venom’s groundbreaking record there’s still one very good reason to get a copy of 2009’s remastered effort. That reason is the DVD of the landmark Seventh Date Of Hell show at London’s Hammersmith Odeon in 1984.

It’s not the best picture quality in the world but in the age of DVD upscaling it looks way, way better than the original film. And it portrays Cronos and his cronies at their most frightening.

look out for an exclusive interview with the man himself on rushonrock very soon – plus a review of Black Metal’s deluxe edition next month.
