Everybody loves a bargain but if you’re a devotee of rock tees then finding value for money is like finding a Tom Jones fan at a Testament gig.

With prices so high you suffer an attack of vertigo, and less quality than a new Kiss album (ok, prove me wrong later this year), it’s nigh impossible to dress for less if you like your music loud and proud.

Over the years – in fact even during the last year – I’ve spent more money on shoddy tees than decent teas. I’ve gone hungry at gigs for the sake of a cheap and cheerless tour shirt and my appetite for financial destruction shows no bounds. Read the rest of this entry »

dear-superstar-heartless1Hard rock heroes Dear Superstar don’t show any sign of slowing down anytime soon after revealing they’re ready to interrupt a summer of non-stop gigging to lay down some new demos!

Yep, the rushonrock faves will head to Tyneside’s Blast! Studios next week after slaying the Sonisphere crowd at Knebworth. And they’ll spend a couple of days working on some of the songs which could make the cut on the follow-up to steady seller Heartless.

“We’re thinking about the new record but we haven’t had time to do much more than that this year,” admitted frontman Micky. “We’ve got a bit of time after Sonisphere and the Buckcherry tour to work on a couple of ideas and we’re already looking forward to coming back to Newcastle.” Read the rest of this entry »

alberta cross bandBrooding lyrics, dark hooks and some delicious storytelling make New Yorkers Alberta Cross one of our bands to watch in 2009.

The modern day guitar heroes mix Black Rebel Motorcycle Club with Kings Of Leon and stir it up to create a classic scuzz rock vibe oozing emotion and conviction. We love the sound and we’re loving the fact that the boys are offering up new track Leave Us And Forgive Us for free.

Hewn from forthcoming long player Broken Side Of Time it’s a heady taster for what promises to be a truly hot record. And we can’t wait to see the guys over here very soon for the UK headline tour that must be. Read the rest of this entry »

buckcherry@ Newcastle 02 Academy, July 28 2009

Could you ask for three better rock bands on one bill? Whatever the reason for headliners Buckcherry playing a truncated 85 minute set it meant more music for your money in the shape of two of the UK’s hottest new acts and the value was there for all to see.

Heaven’s Basement are on a classic rock par with The Answer and Stone Gods and, as a result, are at the forefront of the Tidal Wave Of British Heavy Metal (TWOBHM).

With more name changes than an MI5 spy they might still be suffering from losing one or two fans along the way but the cracking riffs have remained constant. Reign On My Parade and set closer Executioner’s Day are two of the tracks of 2009 and live they take on a new lease of life. In spite of their tirade against the media (cheers guys) this latest incarnation of Hurricane Party should be huge – watch this space. Read the rest of this entry »

And he said: “I’ve heard rumours we’ll be hitting the UK this autumn. I hope the rumours are true. I’m a real Anglophile and always have been. Read the rest of this entry »
