Enduring melodic rock greats Europe get back into the swing of releasing some of the finest music money can buy this summer when mini album Last Look At Eden hits stores.
Out five weeks before the full length record of the same name, the five-track taster features the title track and U Devil U off the new album.
But the obvious highlight for long-time fans of Joey Tempest and co. is the spellbinding live version of Superstitious. One of three live songs on the mini album, it screams quality with guitar slinger Jon Norum in fantastic form. Read the rest of this entry »

Glasgow will welcome back two of its most famous sons tonight when Angus and Malcolm Young bring Hampden Park alive (we hope!) on the final date of the Black Ice European Tour.
With a month-long break guaranteed before they crank it up again in the USA later this summer, there can be no excuses for big Brian Johnson and his pals. And with the prospect of lazy days by the pool supping Brown Ale ahead we’re expecting a full-on assault from the greatest rock and roll band on the planet. After that we reckon they’ll deserve a little time off. Read the rest of this entry »

Devils incarnate Suicide Silence have just released one of the nastiest albums to cross the rushonrock threshold in many a year and now the US noise merchants are preparing to scare us shitless in person.
Yep, the extreme metal crew will join fellow ear bashers Devil Driver, Behemoth, Trigger The Bloodshed and Malefice in Newcastle on October 24 – a new date added to the original 2009 European Beastfeast itinerary.
And if you can listen to SS’s No Time To Bleed without breaking out into a cold sweat then that horrifying quintet could be just what you’re looking for at Newcastle’s Academy this autumn. Read the rest of this entry »

Heavy metal goes head to head with rock n roll this week as we look at four killer records to suit all tastes. Leading the pack is the latest aural explosion from US nosie merchants Killswitch Engage but if you think that’s enough to blast an eardrum then you’ve not heard the new Suicide Silence record.
On the lighter side we focus on Merseyside good time groovers The Jokers and an impressive slice of southern rock style boogie from US stars Cold Truth. Read the rest of this entry »
Danger Danger – Comin Home (Ravel/West) b/w Crazy Nites (Ravel/West) 1991
If ever there was a perfect example of how five second division rock dudes could make the most of the hair metal phenomenon then Danger Danger were it. Luckily for the rest of the band, in frontman Ted Poley they boasted an exceptional singer with a unique voice and charisma by the bucketload.
Able to lift his colleagues to a higher plane, the big-lipped crooner was made for lighter-waving ballads in the mould of Comin’ Home. And given a fair amount of make-up and hairspray Danger Danger were even deemed good looking enough to celebrate this single with a giant colour poster. On closer inspection it was best enjoyed folded. Read the rest of this entry »

Michael Jackson might not have been every rock fan’s cup of tea but a kid brought up on 70s disco sure knew how to spot a riff. Choosing Eddie Van Halen as his guitarist of choice was good enough to warrant respect in Self Made Man’s book even if his off-stage antics dented a superstar reputation. Click on the Self Made Man page link above for a different take on Jacko’s premature death.

Christian rock legends Stryper will return to the fray this summer with the release of new album Murder By Pride on the fabulous Frontiers Records.
And frontman Michael Sweet is promising a return to the band’s late 80s pomp coupled with a modern edge borne out of feedback from die hard fans. Stryper sold more than eight million records before splitting in 1992 but the US stars aim to celebrate their 25th anniversary in style with shows across the world. Read the rest of this entry »

Frontman Jack Russell has experienced his fair share of highs and lows as the lead singer of US blues rock stars Great White. But the band famous for the tragic Station Nightclub fire is enjoying a well earned swansong on the back of recent studio albums Back To The Rhythm and 2009’s outstanding Rising – with a US tour in full swing this summer.
We caught up with one of the most amiable men in rock and discovered he can’t wait to hit UK venues again – once he’s kicked back with a couple of Newcastle Brown Ales by the side of his Palm Springs pool. Read the rest of this entry »

Continuing our celebration of the greatest rock and roll band on the planet, Self Made Man takes another trip down memory lane to offer his personal perspective on AC/DC.
With just four days to go until the rushonrock team heads north to Glasgow it’s little wonder our resident blogger is working himself up into a riff fuelled frenzy as he laments Geordie Brian Johnson’s failure to bring his band home time and time again. Read the rest of this entry »
