Review – Nashville Pussy
@ Newcastle o2 Academy, April 18 2009
By rushonrock Guest Reviewer Roachie (Fables Last Stand)
Busy, bawdy, brilliant. What more could you want from a Saturday night shindig? The beers were flowing, the boys were out and Nashville Pussy delivered a blistering set straight from the US of A. But I wonder if this band ever delivers anything less? Any act with such a strong female presence, playing hard rock with an edge, demands attention and the Pussy certainly look the part. Both sleazy and aggressive, their energy is relentless and a near-full Academy II crowd lapped it up.
The sound did their standout songs justice and there were clearly large swathes of the corwd here to see the so-called support ahead of headliners Supersuckers. The fans at the front went crazy while the punters at the bar took time out from their ale to check out a band back with the proverbial bang.
It’s not often you come away from a gig without any criticism and perhaps it was down to the beer. But Nashville Pussy appeared to be the perfect soundtrack to a Saturday night in the Toon and this was one gig those present won’t forget in a hurry.
